Union teaches Michael Moore a lesson
Edited on Fri Oct-02-09 03:05 PM by WriteDown
Michael Moore, champion of the working class, used non-union stagehands to film "Capitalism: A Love Story." The porcine provocateur is promoting his anti-Wall Street jeremiad by giving free tickets to unions, but the American Federation of Teachers has turned them down because Moore didn't hire any members of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. "Michael Moore and one of our sister unions, IATSE, are in discussions about concerns the union has," the AFT told ABC News. "The AFT has decided against accepting tickets until those issues are resolved." Moore's agent, Ari Emanuel, seems to blame the IATSE for treating documentarians as "second-class filmmakers." "This is a Writers Guild, Screen Actors Guild and Directors Guild film, as all Michael's films are," Emanuel said. "He is a proud, dues-paying member of all three of these unions."

Ugh, unions are the answer to a lot of our problems so this is very frustrating.

22. no, I get it - I was just being a bit snarky
truth be told, while I don't tend to trust what it says any more than Newsmax or WND, I do occasionally make it a point to read what they have to say, either to laugh at, or just to inform myself.

That said, the language in your article is... meh. I'm not going to worry about all of the ways the right will knock Moore just so they can ignore his message. If they choose to be blind fools, then so be it. They ignore him at their own peril much of the time, in that I think he's really trying to do something good for all of the country, not just his followers.

5. What does Rupert Murdoch's Post reporters know about Unions?
They are such wing-nut shills, I seriously doubt there is much truth or facts in this story.

19. The worst part:
"An internal AFT memo, obtained by ABCNews.com, added that the non-union workers hired for the film did not receive health insurance. "

The fact that you are denying what his agent has admitted to is odd.

20. moore always answers these criticisms -- we haven't heard from him yet.
in the mean time you continuously attack and quote from disreputable sources.

you cannot be taken seriously using these sources -- but go ahead -- we'll see what you reap.

as of right now -- moore's assertions work in your favor -- but you want to stand back and throw rocks -- at what is most likely your own glass house if we could look as close.

when you do more good than moore does for the topics at hand -- then you can critisize.

He blamed the union for not putting enough emphasis on documentaries or whatever that means. There is a reason why Moore's net worth is above 50 million.

edited for grammar

23. so moore's company -- the people he's directly responsible for --
does he pay their health care?

and what exactly does moore's net worth have to do with anything?

you've contributed exactly how much to note worthy causes? -- cause pony up now -- let's have a side by side -- you wanna see michaels so let's take a look at yours.

then you're given a pass? Corporate America is proud of you.

I give about 10% of my gross. You don't believe that the ultrarich/fatcats should give more?

Edited on Sat Oct-03-09 11:05 PM by xchrom
michael moore no more created ALL the rules we live by to produce things that we all live by -- a documentary or a pair of socks. -- what you OBJECT to is that michael moore -- who plays and pays by the rules way way better than most -- didn't play by every rule here.

you COULD NOT have done better your self -- now whip it out -- i wanna know how MUCH you've given to land conservancy compared to moore? -- he's given a lot -- he gives his direct employees healthcare -- he contributes to causes I care about -- i doubt you care about them -- whip it the fuck out! now! -- michael moore's shit is out there for every one to look at -- now let's see yours....

29. all you have to do
is go on Moore's website and DIRECTLY ask him about it. Every time he produces a movie, the MSM is ready for any, maybe true, but sometimes created attacks. Oh, how I remember when Fahrenheit 9/11 came out. They had, it seemed, every Republican politician on the air denouncing the movie. I remember when they asked McCain if he'd seen the movie and he said no and then proceeded to tell the talking heads how it was all full of lies. But, if you are really concerned about this, write him-get it from the "horses mouth."

But for me, I don't give a damn---I've viewed everyone of his movies--I'm viewing them for content, and most of the information in his movies, I already have seen clips from various news pieces or have read the information. I'm looking at the emotional aspect (the stories behind the information). Also, the cause and effect of certain actions. And, MM hasn't disappointed.

But, WriteDown, I don't really know where you are coming from. From your comments on the HOA thread, degrading a disabled senior citizen to calling those crazy liberals are just like the teabaggers. You know, those liberals, that don't believe the 9/11 report--I'm wondering if you include the Jersey Girls, in that category of "crazy liberals."

If you're so concerned about this story, ask him.

24. Glad to see some back and forth here.
I was beginning to think there was no actual discussion going on here at du. As I see it, lots of questions and answers on both sides. I'm new as a poster here, but not as a reader. I think we should all get around more. The "other side" is a pretty easy target when you don't really dig deeply enough to know what's behind the arguments.
