I need to know... When did selecting the location for the Olympics become such a BIG F***ING DEAL? |
|
Jesus H. Christ! The MSM is acting as if Chicago not getting the 2016 Summer Olympics is some great policy failure for Obama. Imagine what they'd be behaving like had Chicago won... "Oh, the reason they won was because of Obama... whaaaa whaaa whaaaa!!!!"
What the fucking fuck?
Was it like this when Salt Lake City won the Winter games back in 2002?

2. They're going to need about 100,000 more lost Olympics to come close to wiping even the shame Bush |
|
caused them.
Keep whining righty.

1) It was being proposed for the President's hometown and when that happens politics gets involved.
2) In this economy, a giant building project in Chicago would go a long way in helping some workers in Chicago feed their families for 7 years. People in that area are upset because it was their economic future.

8. But it's not his hometown. |
|
The fucking batshit insane media would have you believe that Obama lived in Chicago all 48 years of his life.

9. For all purposes Chicago is his hometown |
|
It is where he met his wife and decided to raise his family and he was elected to their state Senate in a seat that represents Chicago.

13. That's because back when the '84 Games were awarded ('78), almost nobody wanted them |
|
because they were looked upon as a huge financial black hole for the host city--Montreal had just lost scads of money building the facilities for the '76 Games and would be deeply indebted for years.
Only New York and LA wanted to host from the USA, and LA won the national vote to become bid city. The only other city in the WORLD that wanted to host was Tehran. The IOC picked LA without even a formal election.
LA then went to work figuring out how to host the Games while not only avoiding a deficit but turning a handsome profit. It showed the world how: first, make good use of what you have; second, get corporate sponsors to build everything else you need. Even better, build facilities that will have a useful life after the Games--if they won't, then make sure they're cheap to erect and equally cheap to tear down when no longer needed.
Since then, cities have champed at the bit to host the Games. But 'twas not always thus. The contest truly began only when cities learned they could make it a gold mine.

You forget that Bush sent a taped speech for the New York bid for 2012? Bloomberg et al were sure they were going to win that bid. They were tres silent when London won. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=389&topic_id=6684534&mesg_id=6684534Salt Lake City was easily the most corrupt bidding process in memory. The Utah peeps paid off several IOC members. And never forget the power of TOP (the Olympic Partners aka Sponsors). add word

12. Some great policy failure ... |
|
Read that again.
That is precisely what they're pushing. This has *nothing* to do with the Olympics. Chicago was never a front-runner. Obama's trip was a last-bid effort, one typical of heads of state in the same position.
He failed ... no big deal.
But it *is* a big deal who haven't truly been able to pin failure on him since he was inaugurated. Oh, they've tried, and a lot of us have swallowed the bait, but they've haven't been able even to notch that image of Obama as a winner.
They want Obama to be a loser, and this is the best they've got. They'll run with it for a long time. I guarantee it'll at least be mentioned in 2012.
