U.S. Rep. Bobby Bright of Alabama says he will remain a Democrat
WASHINGTON -- A congressional hearing last week on the retooled missile defense system in Europe was exactly the kind of thing that U.S. Rep. Bobby Bright said illustrates his frustration with partisan politics in Washington.

Republican criticism was that it would weaken America's defenses, and Bright developed doubts. But then Pentagon experts testified in detail how it would be more adaptable and responsive.

So Bright, who was the unaffiliated mayor of Montgomery before being elected to Congress last year as a Democrat, dismissed the attacks on the new missile defense strategy as partisan.

In a brief interview after the Armed Services Committee meeting, Bright restated his intention to remain a Democrat, although he has amassed an especially conservative voting record in his first year.

Curiously, Jerry Moran's (Ks) score is higher than both Tiahrt and Jenkins and he's supposed to be a moderate.
