They are trying to kill Jesus.
Be slow to judge.

Let us take the part out of the Bible that says, blessed are the poor. Let us remove the part about blessed are the peacemakers.

Let us take away the part about feed the hungry and doctor the sick. Let us forget about turning the other cheek. Let us brush away the part about love your enemies.

Instead let us build our House on greed. Surely Heaven's rewards will await us?

To remove Jesus is to kill Jesus.

:-) peace

1. Oh, by 'they' you mean that Conservapedia project to rewrite the bible.
Had to think about it for a bit before your thread made sense.

Did it really need yet another new thread?

2. Repukes are all about bombs and guns and manly stuff!
Jesus never fought in WWII or slammed down a six-pack of beer. Jesus never held the WWE title or won the UFC championship.

3. I've noticed this trend long before the movement to re-write the bible
I call people out on this crap. They want to beat people over the head with their so-called morality, call themselves christian, but they have been for years attempting to beat Jesus to a pulp and leave him to bleed to death in the gutter.

4. "God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him."
They are trying desperately to revive whatever power their religion once had. Let them try and tire.

8. Thanks Blue_
I especially like this quote:

• "And behold, Jesus spake, 'Take thine hands off mine fishes & loaves thou mooching motherfuckers'"

10. I always thought it interesting that
so little of the Bible is actually about Jesus. There are 4 gospels (out of 66 books) and in those gospels there is a paltry sum of words that Jesus actually spoke. Of course, there were also several gospels which never made it into the Bible. The men who assembled the Bible, I believe, added the gospels for narrative purposes only, and they added only those gospels which they thought would fit in with the rest of the Bible. What these people are doing today with their new edit of the Bible is just another attempt to make the Bible fit an agenda and erase the teachings of Jesus.

12. Meh... It's not like they ever paid attention to that junk in the first place.
RWers follow the Old Testament and Paul more than Jesus anyway. Let them fuck with it. It only makes Christianity less and less valuable to society. That's a good thing.

13. That's heavy.
Because if Jesus dies, of course, Christianity dies also. Whether that is a good thing or not is debatable. Would it be a good thing a hundred years from now? Are we to believe that all the dummies in the world will suddenly become enlightened? :-)

14. Are we to believe that if it wasn't for Christianity people wouldn't know how to not destroy society
Societies not only existed but thrived before Christianity or any of the Abrahamic religions. Morality and civics aren't dependent on any edicts from a god.

15. Once people were barbaric..
What proof does anyone have that we could not become barbaric again? Or are we there already? Who knows what forces, what ideas, what thoughts bend the reality toward good and away from evil?

17. To think that Christianity has been a prophylactic against barbarism is almost laughable.
Edited on Wed Oct-07-09 01:34 AM by LostInAnomie
Since its invention some of the most barbaric behavior ever committed in history have either been done in its name or by people that claimed to follow it. The sooner we are rid of it and all other religions the better it will be for all humanity.

18. So you agree with the Conservatives?
Jesus should be killed? O' to pray for that day when we can put such trust in humanity. It's a deep philosophical divide. One stands on one side and one stands on the other and never shall the twain meet.

19. Jesus didn't write one word of the Bible.
A bunch of guys with the equivalent of a third grade education did. You're putting a mountain of faith in humanity to believe that they were being truthful when they wrote it in the first place. And you are putting even more faith in humanity to believe that the numerous other times the Bible has been rewritten are even more truthful. Hell, even the process of selection for the books of the Bible alone should strain anyone's faith to the breaking point.

There are no good acts that the religious do that an Atheist couldn't commit. There are thousands of examples of evil acts committed by the religious that Atheists wouldn't even think of though.

16. Keep blowing this one up, Kentuck. Get the word out and it will hurt them BAD
They can't withstand a fundie split and one can be wedged for certain. The backlash will result in better and truer Christians and a DOA GOP. Some here will ignore or deride all things Christian and walk over even opportunity.

The biggest misconception in history might just be that most wars/conflicts are based on/caused by religion but the truth is that religion is almost always just an excuse for them. All the same wars would still occur but now they're is a punching bag. Wars are fought for power, territory, and resources.

Press this and it will pay real dividends in certain quarters and more than just political tit for tat.

As far as I know, he died one hundred sixty eight thousand years ago.

At least that's what he told me.

27. Their religion, not mine.
The Bible has been changed before and it will be changed again; I can't be bothered to pay attention the the revised version of a fairytale I long-since realized was patently nonsense in any iteration.

A handful of douchebags nobody cares about will make a modified Bible nobody will read -- why exactly are we supposed to give a shit?
