You wouldn't know this one, since the media seems to be doing their best to bury it. In my inbox this morning was the latest campaign screed from the Corzine/Weinberg campaign. One sentence interested me:
With just under four weeks to go until Election Day, every single poll shows an undeniable trend: our campaign is building real momentum. Just yesterday, an independent poll found that Jon Corzine and Loretta Weinberg have taken the lead.
(emphasis theirs)
I wasn't too sure about this since I hadn't heard anything about it. So, I went to poltickernj.com to look for their usual big headline of poll results. (Nearly every day, Politicker has had a "Christie leads Corzine by 354%" type headline high on their page.) Today, nothing.
So I dug down. In a story about inaccurate polling for third party candidates (pretty much proving that a third party candidate whose name is included in the poll becomes a surrogate for the entire field of non-affiliated candidates) I found this one sentence buried deep in the
article, at the end of the second and entire third paragraph:
The FDU poll has Daggett at 17%, with 38% for Corzine and 37% for Christie.
Daggett gets 4% from likely voters who picked him without his name being mentioned. In that survey, Corzine leads 44%-43%.
(emphasis mine)
And here is the press release of the results from Fairleigh Dickinson, to prove it:
http://publicmind.fdu.edu/catchup/corzinecatchesup.pdfSo while the conservative media is doing their best to portray New Jersey as a lost cause, and Corzine as an abject failure, the truth is something else. I'll admit I had also despaired for our chances this year, but I'm feeling much better now.
