Poll finally shows Corzine ahead of Christie!
You wouldn't know this one, since the media seems to be doing their best to bury it. In my inbox this morning was the latest campaign screed from the Corzine/Weinberg campaign. One sentence interested me:

With just under four weeks to go until Election Day, every single poll shows an undeniable trend: our campaign is building real momentum. Just yesterday, an independent poll found that Jon Corzine and Loretta Weinberg have taken the lead.
(emphasis theirs)

I wasn't too sure about this since I hadn't heard anything about it. So, I went to poltickernj.com to look for their usual big headline of poll results. (Nearly every day, Politicker has had a "Christie leads Corzine by 354%" type headline high on their page.) Today, nothing.

So I dug down. In a story about inaccurate polling for third party candidates (pretty much proving that a third party candidate whose name is included in the poll becomes a surrogate for the entire field of non-affiliated candidates) I found this one sentence buried deep in the article, at the end of the second and entire third paragraph:

The FDU poll has Daggett at 17%, with 38% for Corzine and 37% for Christie.

Daggett gets 4% from likely voters who picked him without his name being mentioned. In that survey, Corzine leads 44%-43%.
(emphasis mine)

And here is the press release of the results from Fairleigh Dickinson, to prove it: http://publicmind.fdu.edu/catchup/corzinecatchesup.pdf

So while the conservative media is doing their best to portray New Jersey as a lost cause, and Corzine as an abject failure, the truth is something else. I'll admit I had also despaired for our chances this year, but I'm feeling much better now.

2. Corzine's ads against Christie
(which play here in Philly since we provide S. Jersey their media) have been pretty hard-hitting. He also started playing an ad this morning using sound bites taken from an apparent Obama fundraiser for Corzine.

3. Politicker seems to be blocking comments in favor of Corzine, too!
I was told that this comment was rejected by the automatic filters:

Subject: Talk about burying the lead!

After weeks and weeks of big "Christie leads Corzine by 7,000 points" links at the top of your page, you bury the fact that Corzine finally pulled ahead of Christie in a poll deep within an article about how inaccurate polls supposedly are?

Showing more being "fair and balanced?"

4. As New Jerseans get to know Christie, the less they like about him
Republicans are really starting to regret voting for him in the primary. Oh well.

My worry is that the Daggett supporters end up voting for Christie on election day. Hopefully they will be offset by GOOPers who just stay home.
