Did you know Kent Conrad has occupied Both of North Dakota's Senate seats? |
|
Evidently he was originally elected to the seat now held by Sen. Dorgan.
He promised not to run for reelection if the deficit wasn't reduced by the time he was up for reelection in 1992 and he made good on that promise... sort of.
He did not run for reelection to his own seat but when the other senator from ND died in September he ran for that seat in the special election.
Just something I learned today that I thought was kind of interesting.

1. It's never been unusual for a state's junior senator to become its senior one... |

2. No but generally they do that because the senator occupying the other seat is replaced |
|
and maintain their original senate seat. Conrad actually switched seats he was originally in the class III seat and moved to the class I seat. (They are on different election cycles)

3. Yes you're right, I completely failed to grasp what you were describing. |
