THIS is one you will not believe! Military recruiter at the mall asks my 14 year old son,
Edited on Mon Apr-16-07 09:56 PM by in_cog_ni_to
"Have you ever thought about joining the military?" My son answers, "NO."

Military recruiter, "Why not? IT'S THE ONLY LEGAL WAY TO KILL PEOPLE." &^%$#@!@#$%^&*&*(&%%#@!

There was a thread on DU today about PatMccccc's son having to fill out forms AT SCHOOL passed out by a Military recruiter. LINK TO THREAD: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x667033

That prompted me tonight to reiterate to my son about NEVER talking to military recruiters. I told him there will be a military recruiter at the High School he will be attending next year and that recruiter will be there every day. He must NEVER speak to him or fill out any forms...ever.

My son proceeds to tell me that HE ALREADY KNOWS THE RECRUITER FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL. I asked him how he knew him and he told me the recruiter stopped him in the mall. I asked him why he stopped him in the mall? The recruiter SUPPOSEDLY liked the t-shirt my son was wearing.:eyes: The t-shirt is an army green color with soldiers on it, shooting rifles with FLOWERS COMING OUT OF THE BARRELS (a PEACE t-shirt)! A recruiter liked that t-shirt? I DON'T THINK SO! I told my son that that recruiter wasn't necessarily the High School recruiter because we have a recruiting office just down the road from our mall and it could have been one of the many recruiters from that office. I then told him the recruiter really didn't like his t-shirt and he was just using that as a pretense to stop him to HUSTLE HIM INTO JOINING THE MILITARY. IOW...it was a BULLSHIT EXCUSE to approach my son. THEN I find out what the SOB actually said to my son and I went BALLISTIC. YOU-HAVE-GOT-TO-BE-KIDDING-ME???

Joining the military "Is the ONLY LEGAL WAY TO KILL PEOPLE"????????? It makes me sick. ABSOLUTELY SICK TO MY STOMACH.

I am also sick about my son not walking away from that rat bastard. I asked him why he didn't walk away and he said, "MOM! He just liked my t-shirt! It was no big deal!" No big deal, MY ASS! They are PREYING ON OUR BABIES AND I WANT IT TO STOP! How do we stop them from approaching our children in the MALL while they're shopping? They're vultures as far as I'm concerned!

2. Wow! That is sick and outrageous!
What a sick, perverted bastard! To try to recruit a child into the military by glorifying killing like it's a sport that you should enjoy!!

WHAT THE F___!!!????

OMG!!!!

That really pisses me off. That desk jockey recruiter needs to be sent to Baghdad and put on the front lines and see how much he likes the sport of killing people...when he's the people. Hey it's legal pal, so don't complain that your arms got blown off.

What a POS! Preying on boys so young and glorifying killing people in the military like you should want to do it and enjoy it. SICK!!!!

Good for you for resisiting the indocrination and teaching your children well!!!

mom!" Me.."NO WAY!"*&^%$# My son.."Yep, that's what he said."

OMG. I am so damn disgusted! To tell a child something like that should be against the FUCKING LAW! Not that laws mean anything in this freakin' country anymore.

It's all so INSANE.

9. active duty military get rotated through recruiting duty
they don't necessarily want it.

they are taught methods and told to go meet a quota.
what the hell do you expect? these are guys who've been taught to accomplish the mission.

don't blame him; blame the desperate situation bush has put the country in, where we can't raise and maintain an adequate force for national security because he fucking screwed them over in his Quixotic quest for whatever the fuck bug is up his ass. The military institutions are trying to soldier on despite the debacle.

I just hope the brass stand up soon and say ENOUGH! If they just flat say, "Sir, we cannot fulfill this mission" then its over. Some will take heat, may ruin careers, but dammit, they will be heroes.

12. Tip for parents, in my humble opinion ...
buy a copy of "The Ground Truth." We showed it at a PDA meeting, and my ten-year-old got an idea of how veterans returning home suffered, and how they had been treated by this Administration. All of the things that I had been trying to tell her, that didn't really make sense to her, instantaneously made sense as she viewed the film.

13. You never know what they will do to young impressionable minds.
They will promise them the world just to get them to join the military. Need money for school? We'll pay for that! Always wanted to work in hi-tech? We'll teach you...you'll be RICH when you get out! Always wanted to fly an airplane? We'll teach you and you'll have a career in flying for the rest of your life. We will pay you BIG BUCKS to join.

What they NEGLECT to tell the children IS...IF YOU SURVIVE.... TO COLLECT ON OUR PROMISES....you MAY have a career in what you were trained for. IF you come home with all your limbs or aren't brain damaged, you'll have a career.:(

10. welcome to George Bush's America
It's all about death, killing and destruction. Fun and legal.

Joe Lieberman speaks against violent video games with a straight face while he sends sons and daughters - oh, just not his - off into a real-life hell of 'legal killing'.

I'd be tempted to call the recruiting station, speak to the CO, and tell them just how little you appreciate the 'sales pitch'. It's a shame you can't get a restraining order against a military recruiter.

25. Have they told your son about the downloadable military video game? Just for boys 12 and up....
I kid you not. Uncle Sam's gift to our boys.

I suggest firing off a letter to your congressman/woman, with specifics. CC the School Board, high school principal, and recruiting office, and newspaper. That statement was beyond outrageous.

Many parents (possibly even most) don't know about the recruitment activities at high schools, and even more don't know that they can sign an "opt-out" form to keep their kid's name off the mandatory report to the DOD. You do know about that, right?

In any case, schools are bullied into compliance with the threat of federal funds being withheld, so it's up to parents to put the pressure on to at least make sure parents know they have a chance to fight back.

30. I already have my "Leave My Child Alone" school form AND the Pentagon form filled out, in an
envelope, stamped and ready to mail before school starts this fall. Yes, I know about it. I sent an opt-out form to my son's middle school last year since he was going into 8th grade.

I really like your idea about writing my Congressman...except my Congressman is USELESS repuke, Jerry Weller. He wouldn't do a damn thing. I DO believe the High School principal should be aware of what recruiters are telling our children and a LTTE is in order to give ALL parents a heads up to warn their children about the preying animals roaming our local mall and inform them about the "Leave My Child Alone" op-out options. I'm going to work on that today. Thanks for the idea.

26. ya know what's scary? . . . what's scary is how low the armed services have dropped their . . .
minimum requirements for enlistment . . .

beyond that, what's really, REALLY scary is that the ones they still reject can now go to Blackwater et.al., become mercenaries, get paid a whole lot more, carry lethal weapons, and be allowed to serve as "law enforcement" officers in the U.S., and as soldiers in other countries . . .

THAT'S scary . . .

27. Back when I was in high school I was never bothered in person
but got plenty of pamphlets in the mail and phone calls.
Of course, since I A) looked way too young up until about my senior year, and B)had hair down to the middle of my back by the time I finished my senior year, I wasn't exactly what they were looking for.
Also, between my flat feet and heart murmer, I highly doubt they would have let me in even if I'd wanted to.
Still, it was annoying to continually get the phone calls. I don't know how many times I said some variation of "I'm not interested. Go away."

28. They are shameless
I tell my 15 year old son all the time that they'd love to get their hands on him. He knows well they are looking for cannon fodder.

Be sure to tell that boy of yours how wiley they can be. How they will compliment anything, latch onto anything they can to hook him into a conversation. Get that child as well prepared for their tricks as possible. (By the description of the tee shirt sounds like you've done at least some of this already :-) )

I share your feelings on this. Completely.

I was supposed to lead counter recruiting in the area we live. I had to give up a few months ago, personal financial issues preclude volunteerism efforts in most cases, most of the time. (Not yet ready to live under a bridge.)

Your post and several others over the course of the last couple of days about recruiting happening in high schools and college campuses is moving me to become re-involved rather quickly. They (the recruiters) appear to be desperate, our kids deserve better, every person serving this country in any capacity deserves better. Stand up you guys, will take your back if you do. At least I damn sure will!

"Fuck off". My son too is 14 and I've had the conversation with him many times. Do not talk to those people and if you have to, be mean about it. My nephew was so pressured by recruiters that he was actually thinking about enlisting. I spent a day with him on the internet showing him the real stories about what is happening in Iraq including the dead bodies and photos of our limbless children coming home. He asked me for my college catalog the other day. He's thinking about taking the welding course. For now, he is not enlisting. I'm so proud of him.

I could NOT believe it.

My son went to look at the photos of all the camo tanks, etc. It was quite the display. I said behind him in a loud voice - This should NOT be at a high school intro meeting. And my son asked why, and I replied that they were recruiting more CANNON FODDER for Iraq.

The recruiter turned red and looked the other way.

It was so inappropriate for them to be there.

Unfortunately, not all of "our troops" are the saints it's supposed to make them be to "put themselves in harm's way" for their country. No one ever mentions, or the MSM never mentions, that they have the capability to put other people in harm's way.

I know they aren't all like that, but my personal knowledge of "our troops" is of individuals who think exactly like that - it is their chance to go wild and do whatever they please to other people.
