Everybody's looking at the Nobel Peace Prize all wrong.
It was awarded to the President as a proxy for awarding it to all of us, the American people, for taking a giant step forward in our painful history of race relations. Seems pretty simple to me. We should all be proud.

2. While that would be nice.. actually
that's not why the prize was awarded to Obama.

It has more to do with the way he operates on the
world stage as opposed to the way Bush operated.

3. Yup.
The prize is his but we can all share the credit for it. We changed America's direction and we should all be proud. :patriot:

Anyone who isn't proud hates America.

This is an award to every American who isn't named George W. Bush.

7. And while you are patting us on the back let's not forget
it was Obama's brilliant strategy and cool demeanor throughout the campaign that won the presidency. I'm sick and tired of people asking what has he done as though an African-American winning the presidency against all odds was not a tremendous accomplishment. Then he had the nerve to not back away from liberalism.

I still hear people asking "why doesn't he hit back", "he's not attacking them enough", "he should stop with the bi-partisanship bull" and so on and so forth.

9. Agreed!
Well stated. And we SHOULD all be proud.

I understand some of the feelings that Obama might not have deserved it, but I see the situation exactly as you stated.

I would have loved for Al Gore to have won several years back, but I'll still revel in the idea that this award recognizes a step forward for our country as a whole. And Obama has been the current leading figure for that step forward, so it is fitting that he be recognized.

10. It does show that some people of the world think that we have
taken a step back from the brink that the previous Pres. led us to. Hopefully this will help Pres. Obama spread peace around the world. It definitely gives him more credibility. Maybe he will not escalate in Afghanistan. He needs to talk peace with our NATO allies and move forward to ending that conflict also. Peace in the Middle-east would be a great thing. Reduction of nukes also great but ending the Iraq and Afghanistan occupations is what I'm waiting for.

Peace for the world
Peace for one and all
Peace everyone
