If President Obama is playing 10-level chess, |
|
he needs to understand that a lot of people can barely handle tic-tac-toe.
It is beyond most to see the endgame in a series of seemingly tenuously related moves.
I would be included in the group who can't see some endgames if that is what he is doing. I play chess, but not at the level some assume where policy is being made.
He has only been in office 9 months which is admittedly a short amount of time. However, if moves are being made to the side, backwards, and using fairly unknown pieces, it is hard to see any progress at times.
Maybe some will all work out with a surprise "checkmate." That may require more faith and hope than people have.

1. Or maybe this shit just takes a lot more time than we'd like to admit. |
|
I want it all done right now, too...
I'll wait for three years from now and then see what's what.

3. It can't possibly be done quickly enough.... |
|
...and people are dying in the meantime. Yet chess, slow as it is, may get much more done in the long run.

as some maintain. If people could see glimmers of the moves, it would help. I don't think you can at 10 levels.

32. Maybe Obama wants to play "Absent at the Wheel" and let the "Rest of Us" CHANGE our Government? |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-11-09 07:03 PM by KoKo
Maybe this is the TRUE CHANGE...WE CAN BELIEVE IN. Not a President elected by Lobbyists/Special Interests ...but an ANGRY POPULACE...finally TAKING MATTERS INTO THEIR OWN HANDS?
Sorry for Cap Lock..but most folks here on DU only reply to "heated comments." Sometimes one has to SHOUT to be heard over the "UNRECOMMEND." :-D

6. It's eleven dimensional, not ten.. Much more difficult.. |
|
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-theoryIn theoretical physics, M-theory is an extension of string theory in which 11 dimensions are identified. Because the dimensionality exceeds the dimensionality of five superstring theories in 10 dimensions, it is believed that the 11-dimensional theory unifies all string theories (and supersedes them).

but there's a vast gulf between how prepared Obama was vs. how prepared a person who ran something - anything but a campaign - would be.
Obama had zero executive experience, and zero private sector experience - it would be hard to be less prepared than he was. And it shows; right now, Nancy Pelosi effectively runs the country in conjunction with Goldman Sachs.

|
Unfortunate as that image might be. :)
Goldman Sachs; well, they were going to be running the country no matter *who* was elected, both parties are bought and paid for, so Obama doesn't make any difference anyway.

health care has turned out to be such a debacle. The guy was elected to lead, but he has exactly zero leadership experience; all his experience is as a (junior) legislator, one of a crowd of a hundred or more, and not in any leadership position. So the leadership void is filled on the one hand by Nancy acting like the country is hers to run (which it is, as long as no one is willing to stand up for an alternative), and on the other hand by corporations which have been completely unhindered in looting the country top to bottom.
What we need is for Obama to turn into Teddy Roosevelt, bust the trusts, and show some actual leadership in something that can really help the country.

12. Is reissuing the Patriot Act part of that game? Is continued surveillence part of that endgame. |
|
Edited on Sun Oct-11-09 11:45 AM by OmmmSweetOmmm
Escalating Afghanistan? Putting ex corp whores on the payroll part of the endgame? Is pursuing and supporting DOMA in the courts part of that endgame too? How about leaving Gitmo open and rendition? Still part of the endgame? Or letting Repukes go free and Siegelman still not being exonerated? How about not providing LEADERSHIP for true health care reform?

...the problem is most of DU actually wanted a Bush, or a Cheney, of our very own, and are now miffed they didn't get one.
The longing for rule-by-decree, and a fundamental distrust of parliamentary government, is completely bi-partisan.

18. DU posters predicted that Obama's moderation would fail. |
|
If you've read DU posts over the past year-and-a-half, you would remember the prediction that Obama's plan to reach out to the GOP was the wrong move. The impeachment of Clinton, the theft of the 2000 election, the unpatriot act and the illegal wars should tell any decent person that the GOP is against America. The prediction of the failure of moderation was the easiest idea in history.
Now we see the reality: a stimulus plan that was modified to fail in order to appease America's enemies: the right wing members of congress. We also have the failure to protect American home owners from the vulturous banksters by not passing the 'cram-down' legislation. We see how the credit card companies have circumvented the usury card legislation. Face it, Obama has let us down at a time we could not afford this failure. After 30 years of an economic equation that unbalanced the economy toward the rich, we needed radical legislation to stem the tide. What we got not only failed to balance anything, it failed to ease the suffering from the bush depression.

Hope...
Faith...
More like wishful thinking. What has been done is clear and the sooner people start looking at what has been done instead of listening to what they say they will do, the better off we will all be.

Chess is a game where The Pawns (Working Americans + The Poor) are sacrificed to protect The Royalty (Wall Street Bankers and Global Corporations).
Yes, sadly, Obama IS playing chess.

30. What Bush II did in his first 8 months of his first term |
|
he was not even the clear winner; had no "mandate"; and yet his implemented hundreds if not thousands of policy items thru executive orders, appointments, etc.
Documented by Graydon Carter (editor of Vanity Fair) in his 2004 book, "WHAT WE'VE LOST".
I had hoped Obama would un-do everything that could be undone with executive order, and also issue batches of executive orders every day since he took office.
