We had CNN on last night and after dinner the Paula Zahn hair show was on. I call it that because that has to be the purpose of this hour of TV time.
She would not let up trying to brew controversy and damn the Va.Tech administration and security. Look we don't know what happened and I understand that there is time to fill but clearly trying to fan the flames is not responsible or prudent.
She had on the guy who took the cell phone video. She had on a guy who was in the classroom that blocked their door. She had on several local reporters wearing CNN gear. She even had on a psychologist.
And ALL OF THEM humm and hawwed until their oh so politely rejected her urge pleading to declare how WRONG the Va.Tech authorities were.
Does anyone really think that the odd occurance of a shooting on this campus (any campus) should automatically cause a jump to assume that there is going to be a unprecedented killing spree? Don't you think that that could cause a real panic and you lose complete control of the area?
No not Paula Zahn. She kept hammering and hammering away on it and she couldn't find any takers on her own show.
We will see from afteractionreviews but it appears to me that there were suddenly tons of cops in the area and they quickly tried to stop movement so they could figure out what was going on. I understand the criticism of not communicating with everyone (and that might be the result of this) but this hindsight BS is just that especially with people IN surgery. Lets gather the facts and then we figure out what happened and what went wrong and so forth.
I flipped around a bit and saw that others were trying to do much the same. I stopped watching. All the news I need is on the weather report the rest I will get on my own thanks.

She is a stupid blonde with a lisp. Why she is on the television at all has always been a mystery. Her front teeth make her whistle when she speaks and it has always pissed me off for some reason. I guess I should not speak ill of the handicapped.

Wait till you see today's "coverage". I'll be spending time on CNBC and The Weather Channel, myself.

8. I've watched mostly local coverage |

but I saw on CNN that they have their hosts standing in front of the satellite dish farm that has sprung up on the Tech campus.
I haven't checked out Fox News and I completely missed Olbermann last night.

9. this is a problem with 24/7 news stations |
|
in order to get viewers, you have to brew controversy. The little I saw on this, and to be honest it was very very little, brought that home.

press conference with the cop? I had to change channels after a few minutes of idiot reporters trying to overshout each other to ask the same stupid questions over and over, and trying to immediately place blame & find something controversial to say.... it was ridiculous and embarrassing.

But yeah I caught that. It appeared that some students got in there too which I thought was good -they didn't stick to "oh I may lose my job" questions. The problem I had with this was with people who had time and writers and producers all of whom clearly chose to go this way. The pack mentality feeds off of this and is exploited by whomever gets the first take on it out on the wires.
