2. Does this have a death count translation, meaning, does it give
us a number of how many people we have to kill in order to achieve the objective?? How many misguided souls who will have to take a dirt nap because they believe they are fighting the great satan, because they believe they are protecting their country from an invading force?

3. How much health care could that pay for?
How many mouths could that feed?
How many children could that educate?
How many jobs could that provide?
How much research to end our dependence on oil could that pay for?
How much research to end cancer and other disease could that pay for?

How much longer are we going to stand for this?

ENOUGH!

4. That works out to about $1,800 per year per Afghan..
Average income of Afghanistan now is about $280 per year..

It would be much cheaper to just give them $1000 each per year and wouldn't cost a crap load of lives.

6. McCaffrey is not the US commander in Afghanistan
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 08:26 PM by kenny blankenship
nor in "Af-Pak" -as it is imperially designated- nor at the Malabar Front.

Maybe the story should say the US commander in Afghanistan faces blah blah, acc. to Gen. Barry McCaffrey, US Army ret.

Subject line needs to avoid erroneously identifying McCaffrey as the commander.

18. Did they misquote McCaffrey? The interesting thing to me is what he said
Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 08:41 PM by kenny blankenship
Not who noticed it. I haven't seen any other stories about McCaffrey's estimate, which sounds wildly optimistic to me as far as the projected success. Presumably the Birchers are all for it. As for his cost estimate, that's probably his blue sky figure for how much more borrowed/stolen money and blood they could possibly pour down this shithole before the American people revolt and set up a guillotine on the DC Mall.

10. Whatever is going on there, it's not a war.
A war would not take 10 years and $600,000,000,000 to resolve. Any state would succumb to that. And without a state to fight, it's not a war. It is something else, something else that requires something other than convential military planning.

Barry McCaffrey has been retired for many years.

Ed: I hope more will un-recommend this. It is false and from a RW site.

17. Nah
It's just a story from Meet the Press a vital organ of state propaganda.

Focus on the message. If the source bothers ya I'll pull it and re-post the Meet the Press story.

How do you feel about the Afghanistan occupation?

Edited on Tue Oct-13-09 08:42 PM by subcomhd
It is a story ABOUT Meet the Press "Written by Thomas R. Eddlem" of the John Birch Society's "New American" right wing web page. Interesting choice.
