O'Donnell (Countdown): Only a "triggered" public option to be considered... |
|
So said Lawrence O'Donnell on last night's Countdown. He said it was clear that the White House was going to make the basic rule in reconciling the bills that whatever compromise is crafted has to be something Snowe would support. Since she wants a "trigger" plan (that would make it impossible to ever invoke -- my comment), that means that anything stronger than a trigger will be discouraged by the White House and congressional Democratic leadership.
Don't know how accurate O'Donnell is on this, but he has a pretty good track record in the past.

It is just a way to push it down the road where they think they might be able to kill it.
But they get to choose. If nothing else there would be some comedy in such a thing.

2. Lawrence O'Donnell has been wrong before. |
|
He poo poo'd the idea of any kind of Public Option early on in the process. I remember getting very discouraged listening to him, because I know that HE knows Senate prodecure better than maybe anyone else on the air right now.
The fact that a huge majority of American really really want a Public Option may yet change his expectations.

Sometimes I feel he is a plant to get us riled up. He usually gets ME riled up nearly every time he's interviewed.

4. A trigger that never gets pulled, I'm sure the insurance industry is delighted at the prospect. |
|
WTF is this, with a 60/40 Senate majority we form a committee of 3 Democrats and 3 Republicans to put this legislation together? And now it has to pass a smell test by one person in Congress, a Republican?
:wtf:
Here's an idea for an actual compromise: No strong public option without a trigger, no individual mandate whatsoever. See how the insurance lobby likes that one.

5. Strangely, my vote in 2010 (and beyond)... |
|
...will be triggered at the exact same time as the public option.
I suspect that I am not alone in that.
