Welcome To The New Air America

By Beau Friedlander

You've heard the rumors. The time has come. Today marks the launch of Air America's new web site--the change you want to see, the place to go for the latest news and opinion on the issues that matter most to you.

We're pushing for the issues that matter most to Americans today, and we need you to help. The tide has turned. Health care, the climate bill, education, energy--America is on the brink of a new solution-oriented epoch. It's a group effort. Click around. Interact with our hosts and editors. Tell us what change means to you. Let us know what you're thinking about. Get involved as a member of the Air America community. Sound off. Act up. This is your site. Own it.

Air America’s mission remains unchanged, but now you will find the most up-to-date news, a progressive take on issues that matter to you—war policy, social equality, education, the economy, energy and the environment—alongside insightful commentary, smart bombs of political theater, and the context you need to form and inform your take on the world of politics and beyond.

And of course there’s the same great programming from Air America’s on-air talent including Rachel Maddow, Ron Reagan, Jack Rice, Richard Greene and Ana Marie Cox, as well as other well-known hosts like Randi Rhodes featured on WZAA in Washington DC.

The site now features three audio streams: in addition to the live stream of Air America’s WZAA 1050 AM station in Washington, DC, you can also hear shows from the mother ship in New York City and from the Air America Classics library with Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo, Sam Seder, Marc Maron, Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow, and Randi Rhodes.

New OnDemand content features more than 5,000 audio and video clips and the OnDemand Plus subscription option lets you download full, commercial-free podcasts of your favorite shows.

3. LOL, I noticed you didn't highlight Randi
I WAS an avid listener of AAR, but all the talent they started with either left or was thrown overboard. the demise of Breakroom Live was the last straw and I haven't looked back. I've been listening to Marc Maron's podcasts and podcasts of Rachel's teevee show. (no cable or satellite) That is their legacy I guess.

5. I've tried to find a library of Al Franken's show...
I certainly wish AAR luck with the makeover, but it looks like they've got some issue to work out, yet.

8. Bunker
1. Love the sig:)
2. I will give them credit for trying--I kinda gave up when the "Young Turks" went solo. It's not that there aren't some folks that AAR could bring aboard--Jim Hightower, Jason Whitlock (a sorta 'Left Field' look at sports).
3. I still also think that AAR didn't realize they were trying to break into the most conglomerated of the media outlets. Should have started as just a web station--IMO.

but glad you like it.

I never "kinda gave up" on them, I just never considered the outfit worthy of a premium membership. I continue to like Nicole Sandler and Ron Reagan, and find Ana Marie somewhat amusing; however, the first two aren't available for free download any more so I only hear bits and pieces.

That said, the original lineup with Morning Sedition, Al at noon, Randi and then Majority Report... sometimes I have to wonder if I dreamed that. It was that good. For awhile.

(on edit)

Of course, I got to hear that original lineup during that year-or-so that ATL had an AAR affiliate. Kind of hard to think of this as a "radio network" when you can't get the signal. But I still podcast when I can.

21. It's not just his voice. It's what he does with it...
At least Ron isn't all about Ron. Lionel just liked to hear his own name as much as possible. Totally useless as a radio host.

He always sounds pleasant and charming, no matter what he's saying.

But, I don't "get" Lionel at all.

13. I stream AAR anytime I'm on the computer
work or home. I like it. I miss some of the folks that left, but not Al Franken. I like him and think he'll do well as a senator, but his show was just too silly - and when it wasn't silly, he was kissing up to the likes of G. Gordon Liddy.

My only real complaint now is that Montel is on twice a day - rerun in the afternoon, and it seems like they could at least fill that spot with someone else. Actually, Montel is pretty good, but the same stuff twice a day is way too much, and they rerun him on weekends, too.

14. Yeah.... Air America. Home of the Ron Reagan show... and nobody else you ever heard of.
..or want to, considering the half assed DLC idiots they have brought on board since the Green brothers takeover.

And look at this....

and from the Air America Classics library with Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo, Sam Seder, Marc Maron, Thom Hartmann, Rachel Maddow, and Randi Rhodes.

Anybody notice a name missing there? One of the two actual radio professionals in the original lineup. And the first casualty of the Green brothers coup.

16. seriously 5 years too late.
they are trying to be huffington post now? FAIL. AAR jumped the shark years ago. Luckily most of the talent they discarded like used Kleenex have gone on to find better venues.

20. Air America is Alive and Well
I work with AAM and want to answer questions you all might have about the company because we value your opinon:

1. Rhandi Rhodes is on air in the DC radio station, 1050 AM - you can listen to her from 3 -6 pm on the radio if you live in DC, or online here: http://airamerica.com/ondemand/stream/washington/

2. Re-design: this is by far the biggest redesign of AirAmerica.com that has ever happened. We hope that we did it right this time by truly integrating web + radio content. In addition to 15 radio shows, you will see 6 news channels: politics, news, entertainment, lifestyle, environment, green. We hired several online editors to put out interesting web content, and continue to groom our radio talent so they can all become the next Al Franken or Rachel Maddow.

3. Ron Reagan is one of our best talents - he's been getting better ratings than a lot of other progressive hosts in key markets - I think you will find him compelling if you give him a try.

4. BRL - yes, it is sad that we had to end the show. Unfortunately the show wasn't what we hoped it would be - but we are looking to work with Maron/Seder in the future if that opportunity arises.

I am happy to answer any other questions you have, but most importantly: yes, Air America is still in business. We are planning to grow our online presence and will continue to provide relevant and entertaining online, radio and video content.
