The Republican Party is a clear and present danger to America

Osama Bin Laden can’t destroy America. North Korea can’t destroy America. Iran can’t destroy America. But the Republican Party can destroy us all.

Today’s Republicans are a collection of corporate owned politicians, dangerous propagandists like Limbaugh and Beck, and voters who either work on Wall Street, or are imbeciles who thought the rapists in “Deliverance” were just a couple of “good ‘ole boys.”

The vast majority of us, our country and our Constitution were shredded for eight long, horrible years. And thousands of American service people and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Iraqis are dead. Has anyone been held responsible for any of it?

What scares the hell out of me is the Republicans regaining power with the knowledge that they can do anything they want to do and not be held accountable.

And what do we see on the Republican horizon? Palin version 1.0, Bachmann version 1.0, and Cheney version 2.0. This is what the Republican Party is all about? These are their best and brightest? But what’s really scary is that there are millions who can’t wait to vote for these empty suits … umm, dresses. (Well, you can’t say the Republicans aren’t leading the way in breaking through the “glass ceiling.")

Since losing power, the Republican Party has done anything and everything to block legislation that would benefit most of us, and badmouthed the current administration and congress as “socialists.” (They’re implying Communists, but that term is out of date.)

If you’re not terrified that these people would ever again gain power, then you have no right to ask where your freedoms went once they’re gone. Today’s Republican Party is the lunatic fringe of the human species. And they are a clear and present danger to everyone who is sane.

5. Yep. But the problem is, what do we do about it?

A previous poster suggested their "destruction," but I can't and won't try to define what that poster meant.

Having said that, we must use every legal measure within our grasp to make sure that the Republican Party is not in charge of anything ever again until they regain some semblance of sanity. And that's not hyperbole. I really believe that most elected members of the Republican Party have lost their sense of reality. It seems that this is what power, wealth and arrogance does to people.

Many of us Dems are (far more than) disappointed with the way our party has governed since coming to power. And many of us are disappointed with Obama's gentleness in trying to deal with barbarians. (Go try to reason with a hungry shark.)

So the question is left hanging there. Aside from contributing what we can to those we want to see in power, ltte, and never voting for any Republican, what do we do?

6. I just got a call from a DU friend who called me a wuss.

My friend didn't want to post her comments because she thought I'd be insulted. Instead, she called me, beat me into the ground for over an hour, and said we must "fight these bastards as if they were trying to murder us, because they are."

(I got her permission to post her comments before I entered this. She didn't want to post it under her screen name.)

In rereading my OP, I don't know how much more clear I could have been that Republicans are our enemies. The things that we and Republicans believe in, live by and value have nothing to do with each other.

Anyhow, I told my friend that I was trying to get a discussion started on how to stop a Republican resurrection. She said: "Stop using words like 'resurrection,' you ass. Go for their goddamn throats."

Perhaps she's right and I need to get more strident in my posts. You know -- things like "Fuck all Republicans." I've seen many, many posts like that. But none of them produce any useful strategies or tactics to fight our enemies.

So here's a plea. If you have a clue as to how to stop the Republicans and the immense propaganda machine, money and power they have at their fingertips, please tell us how.

Power trumps idealism every time. One of my biggest fears is that we are going to lose by "playing fair."
