WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. forces in Afghanistan recently intercepted
Iranian-made mortars and other weaponry in Afghanistan, although it
is not clear they were shipped directly from Iran, the military's
top general said Tuesday.

Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that
unlike in Iraq, where U.S. officials say they are certain that arms
are being supplied to insurgents by Iran's secretive Quds Force,
the Iranian link in Afghanistan is murky.

“It is not as clear in Afghanistan which Iranian entity is responsible,
but we have intercepted weapons in Afghanistan headed for the
Taliban that were made in Iran,” Pace told a group of reporters
over breakfast.

1. more smoke and mirrors...
sure they could have been made in Iran but nothing says that the Iraqi's bought them from Iran.

what needs to be looked into is what viktor bout is up to these days.

he seems to be very busy in Nigeria and helping blackwater with transport planes...

2. I thought Iran hated the Taliban and assisted the US in its bid
to topple that control? NOW they are arming them? they sound more like the USA all the time!

4. No evidence that Iran is arming them.
They dropped a hint with the sentence, "although it
is not clear they were shipped directly from Iran
"

Iran has a large & profitable munitions industry; it sells
everything from bullets to tanks to about 50 other nations.
Iranian mortar rounds could have come from almost anywhere
at this point.

And, given the last US photo-op with "Iranian mortar rounds",
I wouldn't take it as fact that these are even Iranian, y'know?

3. So Saddam's WMD's were made in the U.S. He gassed his own people remember?
That gas was given to him to use on Iran. Now do we have something against Iran or what?
