Help debunking something I have never heard of...
READS from BOTTOM UP>>>

My cousin sent the original email on the bottom. My reply is in the middle and she sent this today... I Have never heard of this before anyone know anything about it?

I respect your opinion, but don't you think that someone like Irena should get a chance to get the Nobel peace prize also?
By the way, I just found out that in order to be even nominated for the Nobel peace prize, the person nominating you also has to back up that nomination with a 10,000.00 check. I'm pretty sure this Irena or any of her family (if she has any left) does not have that much money in their back pocket, and this is just to be considered for a nominee.
I also think school teachers, like yourself, that work day in and day out with children of all different cultures, religions, beliefs, etc......are unsing hero's, and you do this just like Irena did, because you care for the children and do it willingly.
I Love you, Greenbriar, and I am very proud of what you have accomplished in your life.
Your cuz,

Hallmark Hall of Fame presented her story in a made for TV movie that was excellent. Apparently high school students “uncovered” Irena living in the US and did a story on her which has been picked up by others. She was an incredible woman.

The prize doesn't always go to the person deserving it.

Irena Sendler

There recently was a death of a 98 year-old lady named Irena who,
during WWII, received permission to work in the Warsaw Ghetto, as a Plumbing/Sewer specialist... She had an 'ulterior motive' ... She KNEW what the Nazi's plans were for the Jews, (being German.) Irena smuggled infants out in the bottom of the tool box she carried in the back of her truck and she carried a burlap sack for larger kids..

She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers of course wanted nothing to do with the dog and the barking covered the kids/infants noises.

During her time of doing this, she managed to smuggle out and save 2500 kids/infants. She was caught, and the Nazi's broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar, buried under
a tree in her back yard.

After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived it and reunited the family. Most had been gassed. Those kids she helped got placed into foster family homes or adopted.

Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize ... She was not selected.

Al Gore won, for a slide show on Global Warming.

63 years later

In MEMORIAM - 63 YEARS LATER

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the six million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians and 1,900 Catholic priests who were murdered, massacred, raped, burned, starved and humiliated with the German and Russian Peoples looking the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iraq , Iran , and others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it's imperative to make sure the world never forgets, because there are others who
would like to do it again.

This e-mail is intended to reach 40 million people worldwide!

Join us and be a link in the memorial chain and help us distribute it around the world.

Please send this e-mail to people you know and ask them to continue the memorial chain..

Please don't just delete it. It will only take you a minute to pass this along.
Thanks!

2. Leaving aside who deserves a prize and just looking at the facts...
that $10,000 thing is a mistake. The Nobel Prize's Web site explains who can nominate someone for the Nobel Prize here:
http://nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/nominators.html

No check needed. :)

I don't know about the $10K requirement for a nomination, though. Checking.

4. I've never heard of it.... and Irene needs some award
.... but alerting the world to Global Warming, at least potentially, outweighs those that help a few thousand.

As well, as not all heroes get honors. Period.

Putting some 'sad case' against something saying 'this is more deserving' because it's sadder....

Really is a low-blow and I'm sure there is a logic fallacy to be found it in.

6. So, what kind of pull do you personally have with the Nobel committee?
Or is your cousin just trying to stir up hatred and resentment? Not a very peaceful thing to do, if you ask me.

10. Not to mention
That it is or was hardly the fault of other Nobel laureates that Ms. Sendler wasn't recognized by the committee in 2003. I think there are plenty of things to be concerned about than whether someone's story was neglected for 60 years. Things like the very real war crimes and crimes against humanity carried out by the Bush administration during the years 2002-2008. Will we have to wait 60 years to learn the truth about people being tortured to insanity or death in our names with our tax dollars?

The story of Gandhi and why he didn't win a Nobel Peace Prize is very interesting: http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/peace/articles/gandhi/index.html

12. I can't think of any Peace Prizes
given to those who helped anyone escape the Nazi concentration camps. Why would they start now, when the appropriate time would have been from 1946-1960?

13. Time and math lost it for her...
The 2,500 lives 60 years ago vs. the 3 billion in the next fifty was probably a factor. Also, thank the right for recognizing the hard work of the International Federation of Social Workers which appears to have submitted her name, though those records are sealed for 50 years.

Social Workers are some of teh most thoughtful and caring people I know. Not one of them is a Republican.

what she did may have been selfless and noble- but how did it advance the cause of world peace?
