162. it's the reports about the coughing/lung problems that has me kinda terrified.

my spine is fused(naturally, due to disease- ankylosing spondyilitis), and my rib cartilage has turned to bone, making the connections with the spine rigid, meaning that my ribs won't flex to allow my lungs to fully inflate. i can almost never take full breaths, or cough strongly enough to clear my lungs. it can be maddening at times...and downright scary at others.

Do you try to "sustain" a long inhaling technique? It's done like someone sniffing a large bouquet of flowers (very purposeful). Before releasing this breath, hold it a few seconds, then exhale against a little "back-pressure" through the lips. When you've done this purposeful breathing technique, stick your tongue out and cough with good force. That tongue maneuver will assist a better contraction of the diaphragm and the cough should be more effective.

Just a little house cleaning technique. Oh yes, drink water often, since it allows any accumulated mucus to be less thick, thus not as likely to be retained.

There have been quite a few deaths here in NM, mostly school age children and young to middle aged adults. The percentage of deaths might not be any higher than for a regular flu, but seeing the young and healthy die from it instead of the usual elderly people with multiple health problems is frightening.

I didn't go get a flu shot or get treatment for it, because I had to get a tooth removed and took antibiotics for 2 months prior. I just rode it out and seem to be over it.

Whatever she has, she has had it since Monday. Had 102-103 fever for three days, aches, cough, sore throat,
just miserable in general. Today she has no fever, still has cough, and more energy. Our local clinic said
there are no normal flu outbreaks in our area yet, but there have been cases of H1N1, so I am assuming that
that is probably what she has.

Here in Columbus, but you can only get one if you're a healthcare worker, pregnant, very young, or immunity compromised. I called a retail clinic, and the lady said that it may be two months before it's available to the general public. I'm starting to get worried. I've used so much hand sanitizer that my skin is starting to dry and crack.

The Swine Flu is a strange & damaging strain. I remember getting it back in the mid 1980's, when it was going around, and it was entirely no fun. I ached, Coughed, Hurt, crapped, all in pain. because of my exposure, If I get it again, My hope is that it will be mild, since I'm not quite as healthy as I was back then, when I was in my mid-thirties. Those who were not yet born, or avoided it when it occurred back then, or had not been vaccinated against it, are now, I believe at a very dire risk of expiring from it. I believe that this explains the amazing differential in symptoms, and there appears to be an age divide versus the severity of symptoms. I urge the vaccination, and Not the nasal version, but the subcutaneous administration, with DEAD virus, for those with no history of exposure to the late 80's historical version.

A co-worker of mine lost her nephew's mother to H1N1 recently.
She was 25 and had liver disease as well.
But despite her chronic ailment she was not given the medicine that might have saved her life because she was not deemed to be "high-risk."
