"This happened because we kicked God out of schools/America" |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-17-07 01:28 PM by Rocknrule
I've been hearing this over and over again over the past day - people again using a tragedy as an excuse to argue for state-sponsored religion. Listen, no one is preventing kids from praying by themselves in schools - as long as they don't force others to join them. If that's what you want, go to a private Christian school, that's what they are for! And you know what they say, as long as there are tests, there will ALWAYS be prayer in schools. Second, the last thing our society needs is more religion. What has government-encouraged religion ever given us besides the Crusades, 9/11, Middle east theocracies that run on violence, everything associated with Bush, and Nazism? However, if more people actually acted like peaceful role models such as Ghandi, Martin Luther King or Jesus (whether or not you believe in his divinity) then yes, these things would happen less often.

1. It's a stock bullshit answer from the intellectually bankrupt. |
|
Like when they tried to blame Abu Ghraib on legal porn.

I think anyone who possibly cares about god and or religion should be apalled when someone uses disasters to further their religious angles. This happened because a psychopath had access to guns....there is no more than that.

4. Yes lets all be forced to pick in the bible the passages which make lunatics happy |
|
the way today's christians do. And be like the nra and pick and choose in the constitution the passages they choose to obfuscate to support their agenda.
And don't forget christianity has never done anything to promote violence ever. (Do I need the sarcasm thing?)

5. Unfortunately, He was kicked out of government long before, and the attitude |
|
of politicians towards those they are supposed to be governing justly and wisely matters a great deal to that same public. In the adult world and in the schools.

too! :banghead:
What an utter load of crap! The only thing it goes to show is the fanatics recognize an opportunity and try to capitalize on it.

11. I didn't know God stopped bullets |
|
Hmm all those battlefield prayers must have gone unanswered or maybe everyone who has ever been shot, you know, had it coming to them because they didn't have God to stop the bullets.

15. My response to any person with op's post is "oh for shits sake, give me |
|
a break". And then launch into a litany of abuse and not christian like behavior. I'm thinking of all the Iraqi's today. Why are our few dead so much more important than anyone else in the world?

16. Shows how stupid & deranged the religious right is |
|
Make no mistake, this would be a frightening country to live in if the likes of a Sam Brownback, Mitt Romney got elected...That's the message you will hear from these two, "we need God back in the classroom", "God in the public square", etc....God this, & God that - the religious wackos always forget that we have not only "freedom of religion", but "freedom FROM religion"....
"Second, the last thing our society needs is more religion." - Exactly...I subscribe to Bill Maher's views on religion...
