4 states in Southeast form coastal alliance

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Environmental officials from four Southeastern states are announcing an alliance to deal with regional coastal issues during a meeting on the South Carolina coast.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control is hosting officials from North Carolina, Georgia and Florida in Charleston on Monday to announce the Governors' South Atlantic Alliance.

A partnership agreement was worked out earlier this year so the states could work together on regional coastal and ocean resource management.

Besides state officials, Michael Boots of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and John Dunnigan, assistant administrator of the National Ocean Service, are attending.

This is a great idea if they really make it work. If you do something at one spot, it's going to affect somebody else.

There should be an Atlantic coastal alliance. Of course, this could be a front to rev everybody up to fire on Fort Sumter again.

for us. i'm surprised alabama is not included since this could include the lake lanier issues.
