Concern over moving 70 stone man
Source BBC/UK

Health bosses in Suffolk have been trying to find a way to transport a "super-obese" man to another county for life-saving treatment.

Paul Mason, from Ipswich, weighs about 70 stone (445kg).

He needs to travel from his home to a hospital in Chichester, West Sussex, for life-saving specialist treatment.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Primary Care Trust said the man will probably be taken by road in a specialist ambulance.

If my calculations are correct, 445kg.= over 980 lbs.

3. Wonder what he weighed at 4 months?
The best part about the US healthcareless system is its capability to detect these kinds of unhealthy unprofitable conditions early on.

7. According to the article...
when his weight was at 50 stone a few years back, they removed a window and used a modified forklift to transport him.

I wonder what his underlying condition is; I would think this is something more than overeating and lack of regular exercise.

13. It's a form of OCD mixed with food addiction. Apparently he puts away 20,000 cals a day.

9. It's astonishing he's still alive
because the workload on the heart generally kills people off at half that weight. If their hearts don't get them, infection from skin breakdown will.

It's really hard not to feel sorry for him, no matter how he got that way.

11. I agree.
Once one is that heavy (980 pounds!) the mental effort alone to reduce (if possible) must be overwhelming.

14. Who keeps feeding him?
It's not like he can go fetch his own food. An online BMR calculator said it would take over 6500 calories each day to maintain that weight, if he cut down to a mere 3000 calories per day, he'd lose about a pound a day.
