Sea Snot: Climate Change Gets Gross

http://www.motherjones.com/blue-marble/2009/10/sea-snot-climate-change

What's grosser than gross? Two words: Sea mucus. National Geographic has the scoop on marine mucilages, "jello-like sheets of disease-carrying mucus" that are spreading across the Mediterranean Sea. If you have not eaten in the last hour, check out the video below. A recent study found that sea-snot outbreaks increase when water temperatures rise, making this perhaps the most revolting evidence yet of the unexpected effects of climate change. It has some competition from the Arctic blob, a "fibrous, hairy" black goo that mysteriously appeared off Alaska this summer. It turned out to be an algae bloom, and one scientist suggested it had something to do with climate change. Global blob takeover—do you really need any more reason to get serious about global warming?
-------------------

and don't forget the 44 plus radiation toxic ships sitting on the Mediterranean sea floor. adding their poison to the snot.

I wouldn't step toe into the Mediterranean sea.

or be near any spray or mist from waves breaking on shore.

nor would I eat anything coming from that sea or any sea.

5. ensho, I am not laughing at you...or at our sea.
just knowing the state of our waters down here and that you were talking about the Mediterranean.

I don't swim in KW, but I do swim up here in Sugarloaf and Bay Point, quite frequently.

Have not grown an extra ear yet...

Not to mention I was neck deep in the water from Wilma, lol.:hi:

3. I should probably count my blessings
that Jebbie's unbroken wall of condos prevented me from dipping a toe into the Atlantic for old time's sake when my dad died 3 years ago.

It seems Mother Nature is fighting back and the fight is starting in the area we've done a lot of damage to by thinking of it as a gigantic toilet, our oceans.

Fish is the only flesh food I still eat. It will be painful to give it up, but it's coming so I might as well get used to the idea.
