I began here:

Post in a thread from GD

Although I have no way of knowing what principle was invoked to arrive at the conclusion about cartels and holding customers hostage, it occurred to me that perhaps the same principle might allow one to arrive at a conclusion about trade unions and holding customers hostage.

4. I'm gonna say yes,
even tho I didn't read the thread that got you started on this thinking.

I'm basing my answer on a recent conversation with a friend's husband. He works for Verizon and said that if Verizon doesn't keep the union happy, they're perfectly willing to go out in the field and begin cutting lines. He said that managers frequently get pulled in to cover for striking union workers and that by cutting wires, they'll ensure that the managers will have a hell of a time keeping up, and will have scads of pissed-off customers to deal with.
