8. I've seen other articles saying the same thing

that "off the record" a lot of Republican leaders really wish Cheney and his whole family would disappear or take a long vacation.

That said, I'm a bit puzzled why there's a reluctance by the party leadership to speak out against him given that it was Cheney's and Bush's incompetence that led to the shellacing the Republican party suffered in 2006 and 2008.
