Big Ed, I'll tell you what the Rs are afraid of and why they are trying to prevent
healthcare reform. Remember that Rove promised them a "permanent majority?" Well, they are now faced with the prospect of becoming a permanent minority. This is why they can do nothing but oppose--everything.

11. somebody should have
this bumpersticker-sized post is not worth over 100 recs.

Plus there's the fact that Republicans are anticipating re-retaking Congress in 2010. I hardly think we should be pleasantly dreaming of our permanent majority.

14. They anticipate many things...
My prediction, I'll refer to it in November of 2010. They will lose more seats.

19. that's a nice thought and I hope you are right and me and them wrong
I think we need to work our butts off between now an next November to make that happen, but two things are not in our favor - the seemingly large number of people who feel that hope and change have not been delivered and the other group of people who are already celebrating a victory in the middle of the 3rd quarter (ding dong, the Republican Party is dead - good grief, haven't those people ever seen a horror movie? Evil is just about impossible to kill. Just because the Terminator got shot point blank three times by a shotgun and blasted through a door, does NOT mean it is dead. Just because it got run over by a semi after crashing a bike and got blown up and burned in a gasoline fire does not mean it is dead. You need to keep running and keep finding ways to stab it with your steely knives.) That's partly how we beat them in 2006. They got complacent or discouraged while we were fired up. This time, it is THEY who are fired up, while we seem to be complacent or discouraged.

Marauding assholes, indeed. 82 before my rec, 82 after. I'm glad the GOP is finally dying and I'll piss on their grave when they're finally gone. Good riddance to trash.

This thread piggy backs on the Dominoes thread. Once those dominoes begin to fall one by one (Health care reform domino is the big Kahuna) it is kapoots for the R's for the next generation. Grab some popcorn folks because it is going to be an awesome show!!!!!!!

9. "The only way to handle republicans is to terrify them. Obama is too delicate for that".
Edited on Fri Oct-23-09 01:21 PM by GreenTea
As we saw Congressman Alan Grayson (D-FL) do so beautifully & effectively....the republican bullies were reduced to name calling & idle threats from afar.

"The Republican Party is not a political party. It's a mindset, like Hitler Youth."

It's full of hatred. You're not going to get them aboard. Don't even try. The only way to handle them is to terrify them. Obama is too delicate for that."

"I was like everyone else when Obama was elected – optimistic. Everything we had been saying about racial integration was vindicated," he says, "but he's incompetent. He will be defeated for re-election. It's a pity because he's the first intellectual president we've had in many years, but he can't hack it. He's not up to it. He's overwhelmed. And who wouldn't be? The United States is a madhouse. The country should be put away – and we're being told to go away. Nothing makes any sense." The President "wants to be liked by everybody, and he thought all he had to do was talk reason."
- Gore Vidal

I completely agree with Vidal, EXCEPT about Obama being defeated in the next election, I don't believe he will.....in so much what a truly accurate & excellent line: "Obama thought all he had to do was talk reason." --- (But, not when one is dealing with the lying slimy fucking republicans).

How does one expect to talk "reason" with the hateful, greedy republicans, "reason" never enters into the arrogant, elitist republican mind...Republicans are liars and care nothing for no one, their lust is only for imperialism & empire, power & money! - Why does Obama think "reason" would work with these slimy animals called the republicans?

It's also true Obama wants to be liked by everyone, is that a good or bad thing? Certainly President Obama must understand the republicans despise him, will never work with him on any problem or issue, ever, yet he keeps trying...is this sensible or ignorance because republican ideology is wars for profit, imperialism, world empire, government for profit, corporations in place of government for profit, and the taking workers money for profit....Who would care to be liked by this (republican) lot in the first place, who would even care what republicans want or think?

18. I'm not disappointed with Obama - he does what he is good at.
But I am sorely disappointed that Biden isn't being the VP attack dog going after the haters. That is one of the VPs primary jobs - to say the things that the president cannot or should not.

The VP is the president's shield man. Or, with a different military analogy, his wing man. He keeps the attackers at bay while the pres focuses on the target.

Where IS Biden?

16. One of the Drawbacks of athe Republican Coup or Go for Broke mentality
They are not allowed to consider the externalities or ramifications should their plan fail, and now they are paying the price.

Couldn't happen to a better bunch of assholes, but don't look now, the DINO's are quickly coming up to speed and may soon overtake them.

17. It's like they never think of the downside to extremism.
Here's a hint: Cater to your base of extremist 30-percenters and you'll only piss off the majority enough that Democratic GOTV efforts work very, very well. ;)
