The mainstream conservative parties in most Europaean countries are not as bad as the Republicans (though they certainly come close in Italy, and may be even worse in Poland); but most countries have their far-RW borderline-fascist - and sometimes blatantly fascist - parties. Think of LePen, or the late Haider.

And the BNP is not a new phenomenon; it is basically the old National Front 'spun' to be slightly more superficially respectable.
