A BRAND NEW STUDY ON THE PRICE OF HEALTH INSURANCE!!!!
Republicans love the status quo that keeps their donors RICH and kills people.

Health Insurance costs are already out of sight, especially considering how low wages are, and how many people are out of work.

You can get free quotes on the Internet. I tried to get the lowest NC quote just to get a rock bottom estimate. You may want to see what demographic you can cook up to get a maximum estimate for more comprehensive medical coverage.

But for now- just look at the minimum cost of the minimal insurance without dental coverage for a 23-year-old male student who does not smoke. This is a demographic and plan that should yield the lowest prices.

But the prices aren't low!

Aetna ($2,500 Deductible) is $141 monthly...
Aetna ($5,000 Deductible) is $85 monthly..

I need not continue, but there is more if anyone is interested.

The cheapest plan:

Humana ($7,500 deductible) is $55 monthly

I cannot find any plans under this price. These are rock bottom minimal catastrophic health insurance plans for a healthy young man who does not smoke and who does not get dental coverage.

So you are likely to pay over $1,000 a year for the minimum catastrophic major medical insurance with a high deductible if you are young and healthy and do not smoke.

And then there are enormous copays and other costs and fees that are not covered like the cost of transferring medical record documents from provider to provider...

And then the insurance company denies your claim if you have a planar wart....

insurance, when the time comes that you need them...they can deny anything they want.
It is a scam.. You pay them, but they do not have to come thru when you need them.

3. OK, enough.
You have, as best I can make out, fifteen fucking threads on the front page of GD right now. Most of them cut&paste jobs from other sources. Many of them old. And far, far too many of them with titles in allcaps. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're not a troll. But seriously, you're not conducting yourself well.

When I want your opinion of my conduct I will ask for it. Why does the number of threads by me affect you? Just avoid them, your computer has a cursor.

4. Link? And, you can divide the deductibles by 12.
141+21 = 161
85+83 = 168
55+65 = 130

IN HEAD year:
1932
2016
1560

For 3000 per year per capita, everyone can be covered, for everything, for whole lives, not just when in the twenties, with healthy habits, and no pre-existing conditions.

But, how is posting after someone, interrupting them? Really?

Save your venom for the enemy. Some other liberal hall-monitor posted a link saying something wasn't my work and then it turned out that I was the original author on the link.

Excuse me for reading and trying to give liberals ammunition in the other cases.

And this thread is MY OWN WORK. HA!

14. You are deeply confused.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6851403

It takes a certain type of naivete to kick the door in, break out a megaphone, start screaming nonsense without making an effort to source or credit said nonsense and then claim some moral higher ground.

If you have a message you'd like to get out here, it's being obliterated by "your style".

I did not pick a single fight on this forum. You cannot point to a post where I instigated one thing. I reserve the right to respond to people.

I have enough threads without sweating a few getting locked on my first day for not knowing a particular policy. Do you have anything to add to the substance of this thread? It took me some time to create since it is my own original work and completely within posting guidelines.

32. Thanks for a more welcoming tone. I intend to preserve as much of my style as possible
I have a terse style and do not clutter things with links as much as others; but despite this I have posted more links than many during the last 24 hours.

For many things, it is redundant or cluttery to provide superfluous linkage since it is rudimentary to find things in today's environment.

I will adhere to the rules about material that is copied from a source and post appropriate links as directed in those cases.

21. And if you want people to take your post seriously...
You have to provide hard evidence that those are actual numbers out there.

No one is going to take your word for it or go out and do the research for you.

If you can provide a link to the information where you got it and how you arrived at those monthly figures etc., I bet you'll get some real discussion. Right now it's just a bunch of numbers spouted by some new guy on the internet who says he doesn't give a crap whether we like it if he provides backup for his screaming or not.

So, that's your style. Go for it. See how far it gets you. That's your prerogative.

You may check for yourself in your own state. These are NC numbers for those policies and the source is the company, not a website.

I am providing all of the information.

Don't be jealous of a good thread that you were not original enough to create.

30. Admit that you are being silly and try to be productive- this is a start! CONGRATS!
As you have proven, anyone can ping the sites and get their own quotes using the information given in the thread. I encourage you and others to do that from the beginning. I did not want to post the link to every insurance company.

There is no rule that requires any links in this case at all.

At least you are moving towards adding to the discussion material. Keep it up!

Got a quote for us?

Edited on Sun Oct-25-09 02:19 PM by JTFrog
Half a dozen or so?

Can you maybe take this as constructive criticism that "your style" might not be suited for DU? Sure not everything can be linked nor is everything required to have links. However, you will find that some things do require links and backup and some will just make your time here that much easier and your credibility will certainly not suffer any for providing sources or some sort of backup for your posts.

When I first started yesterday I did not know the requirements were strict and five of the fifteen threads were locked.

I will adhere to the link policies, but I admit there are some other nebulous wet blanket policies that might lead me to use my talents elsewhere.

26. Wow - the prices you cited look pretty good to me.
Wait until you hit 60 and have a pre-existing condition. The quote I got for my husband and I a couple of weeks ago was $19,200 a year - no dental, no Rx, big deductible. This was a new "affordable" state plan for the self-employed. Unfortunately, you have to be self-employed as a gold miner to be able to afford it.

27. Look at the minimum that they are- which is the point
This was the minimum you would pay as a healthy young man that does not smoke in a conservative state....

The point is also to look at what this covers- it is only a major medical/catastrophic plan/plans with large deductibles.

And much is not covered, including many routine things.

Thanks for your input.

Tell us more about your costs- or costs of those like yourself demographically- for various coverage if you have time!
