"Showdown In Chicago": Protesters Crash Bankers Convention, (VIDEO, IMAGES)

UPDATED: 10/25 10:20:

Via National People's Action, here is some footage from the protesters at the ABA conference. From the footage, it's clear there are some strong emotions from the protesters.

At one point a protester grabs a megaphone and says:

"The American Bankers Association has helped loosen the rules that protect us, allowing the unfettered greed that has brought us to the brink of a recession. And for those bankers who are members and support the ABA's war against the working and middle class, shame on you!"

The crowd soon begins chanting "Shame On You!" in unison.

2. I was pretty surprised that it was almost IMMEDIATELY "unrecommended"...
...I'm trying to understand if we have offended bankers here or what...

3. We must have a few bank presidents and ceos here at DU
Edited on Mon Oct-26-09 12:05 AM by rpannier
Either that, or someone who aspires to be one.

on edit:
Either that, or someone who has done like me a few times and hit unrec by mistake

I own up to it so people know it was an accident

I wish we had a way of rectifying it here

Kind of like the old recommend system where it asked you if you wanted to rec

5. You have to understand..
a lot of different lobbying groups use specialized web software to automatically un-recommend posts and comments they deem unfriendly to the industries they represent. This is why I don't get DUs decision to even add an unrec feature. It largely caters to a very specific set of political interests.

13. I totally agree with your statement
...the unrec feature is a gift to corporatist dogs who want to come here and control and make
invisible--threads that shine the spotlight on their sickening antics.

Unrec needs to go. It only helps non-Progressives minimize Progressive ideals.

6. of course, here in Chicago, totally ignored
First I had Morning Joe on the teevee-don't ask why- then I saw this and switched to local news-which is unbearable. Plenty of discusson of 80's songs, the stars of Twilight", Halloween costumes, etc. NOTHING about this. Searched the Chi. Tribune online- nothing on front page. Finally found an article buried in there- "Durbin calls for bailed-out banks to help on foreclosures" that's a real attention-grabber!!
the first line-"U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and nearly a dozen protesters called Sunday for banks that received billions in bailout money to help consumers who have fallen victim to bad loan practices and are losing their homes to foreclosure."

NEARLY A DOZEN????? the video shows tons of people in the street-a lot more than most of the teabag events. Then I checked the Chi. Sun Times online-nothing.
