Question for DU's pilots (re: Northwest Flight 188 and MSP overflight) |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-26-09 02:00 PM by Billy Burnett
Something that's had me wondering about this instance ...
The last time I sat in the 3rd seat of an Airbus in-flight (just before 9-11) the pilots were talking about and showed me a "dead man's switch" that had to be pushed within every 3 minute period (when they were cruising on auto pilot), and I seem to remember a quiet beep reminding the pilots at the 2 minute mark.
IOW, if the Airbus software did not sense any pilot input for more than 3 minutes then the software would alert ATC with a signal.
Is this still the case? If the pilots were sleeping and no pilot input was sensed, wouldn't we have heard about this by now?
Thanks for any info on this.

1. Did the crew fall asleep with their faces pressing down on the button? |
|
Or did they just set their laptops down on it?

3. Delta is being very crafty. |

There really is no Northwest anymore - it's Delta.
There's a small tail end of things carrying the Northwest name that ends in, maybe, January - meanwhile Delta isn't in any hurry to remind anyone that this is their flight.
