PIC: Honor, responsibility...
And a President who understands the consequences of his decisions.

Regardless of what you think of our President, he deserves credit for this. Bush wouldn't allow the country to even witness these scenes, Obama goes personally to honor them.

2. JeffersonDem posted video.

Thanks for replying to this. We brought home 18 fallen soldiers/agents last night. I'm taken aback that few on DU seems to be interested in discussing this.

And no, Bush would not have handled this well. He would not have been able to restrain himself from an inappropriate smirk or little dance.

3. The focus on that photo is very strange....
Obama is the only aspect in focus--almost makes it look photoshopped.... That, said, I am glad he went to Dover.

Obviously the subject of sharp focus is President Obama.

6. Yes. Obama returned to the WH at 5:00am. No sleep last night.
To honor the fallen soldiers and comfort their family.

It's pretty remarkable and I'm saddened that DU is so disinterested in both the loss of these soldiers and our Democratic President's brave gesture.

7. Well in that case I'll just have to rec and kick
Part of Bush's legacy is the bitter cynicism of people who were against him. He landed a heavy blow, and the Congress continues to play like nothing out of the ordinary has happened.

8. He is the only one who is not moving. The soldiers carrying the coffin are in motion.

The darkness may have made it difficult to have used a lens speed fast enough to stop their movement.

10. I hope so too. But I take comfort in his ability to at least face the consequences.
He met with all of the families and watched every casket be unloaded (the press only had permission to film the last one). He didn't get back until 5:00am, so little to no sleep for our President last night.

It was a decent thing he did last night, and I think he should be commended for it. The video is particularly moving.

12. Did you notice that Eric Holder was there?
I think he must've been there for moral support for the President... can't think of why else he would be there...

13. 3 DEA agents were killed in Afghanistan.
That's why.

I was puzzled too until I remembered that.

15. DEA is part of the DOJ, so yes.
Their site lists the three men who died.
