The Future of Abstinence

It's been a mainstay of sex ed for more than a decade.
Now, as the Obama administration cuts off federal funding,
the movement scrambles for money, determined to continue its mission.
http://www.newsweek.com/id/219818

Cutting through the fog, let be clear what 'Abstinence Education' is: Its message is don't engage intercourse before marriage; Its curriculum is censorship: Factual information on contraception is denied and prohibited. As such, the moniker 'Education' is fraudulent.

4. $1.9 billion in government funding since 1997 ($1.5 billion of that federal money).
Edited on Sat Oct-31-09 06:34 AM by Lasher
During the Bush administration, funding for abstinence education more than doubled, from $80 million in 2001 to $200 million in 2007.

This information comes from the article linked in the OP.

5. Abstinence has the same chance it ALWAYS had. .
There is nothing in any "abstinence only" policy that EVER effected how people behave.

9. Abstinence shoulld be taught at home and at church.
It is not a good use of resources to try to suggest it to the general population.

12. The purity rings bring back memories of the creepy father/daughter faux proms.
I'm delighted Obama stopped the cash for this program that would not teach birth control.
