The thing needs to pass, and looks like doing so. It is far from perfect, and its passage is hardly the end of the fight. But it is essential as a first step.

I was wondering exactly how I'm feeling going into this vote, and you brought to mind how Anne Frank must have felt when she listened to Churchill's speech.
It's really a wonder that I haven't dropped all my ideals, because they seem so absurd and impossible to carry out. Yet I keep them, because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart."

I'm so sick of their lies and misrepresentations. I love how they always talk about how bad Cash for Clunkers was when it's one of the most successful government programs ever. They probably would say the sky is green and the grass is blue just to not agree with our side of the aisle.

And only mostly at Republicans.
I'm also pissed off at some Democrats -- and not just the Blue Dogs.
I'm not entirely enthralled with the prevailing belief in some circles that we should just vote this bill down, and move on to the single-payer plan put forward by President Kucinich, you know, the one funded by the new top income tax bracket of 55%, that just sailed through committee in the House and Senate, and sits next on the House agenda?

there are some good things that the bill addresses but we could have done much better. There wasn't much of a fight for what needed to be done: a real public option. You know one that is actually an option. Way too much in subsidies that go to the corporations instead of letting the people chose.

And a fair amount of disgust toward the Dems - NONE of whom have EVER made an issue of these assholes getting our party's name wrong. SHEESH!!!! They can't even to stand up to the bad guys on THIS? How on earth can the Dems stand up to the schmucks on really critical issues on which we all need their representation and their vigilance, when they won't even deal with THIS?
Shit. Just disgusted.
And of course now they're debating the Stupid Amendment - which shouldn't even be an issue for heaven's sake!!!!

56. What don't they understand about - "the Dems WON last November"? |

What is it about that undisputable fact that they still don't get?
Is it just battered wife syndrome or something?
Just ONCE I'd like to see somebody put a figurative track shoe or a spike heel through the throats of those bastards on one of these things. Even once!!! Just ONCE I'd like to see them treated like the spoiled-brat, tantrum-throwing three-year-olds they are (by a vigilant parent, that is). Oh, excuse me, they ARE being treated like the spoiled-brat, tantrum-throwing three-year-olds they are (by negligent, lazy parents who believe that ANY discipline as a consequence for bad behavior will some how cramp their style or damage their self-esteem). I remember just a couple of years ago when they even stood up and stomped out of the House in a hissy-fit because they weren't getting their way. If I'd been Nancy Pelosi, I would have waited until they had all left to go do their little stunt outside where they'd tipped off the cameras they were going to gather, and once they'd all cleared out, I'd have ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to lock the doors and gaveled the proceedings inside back to order. THEN we would have gotten a few things accomplished WITHOUT those selfish, misbehaving bastards trying to block some critical business that needed to be taken care of. That might help teach them that - hey, don't pull that shit again! If you don't want to be locked out, then stay inside and figure out how to work properly with THE MAJORITY, SORE LOSERMAN ASSHOLES.

The Republicans generally are idiotic and desperate across the board, but Boehner seems to stand out. One of the most disgusting performances by a Republican leader ever, and that's saying something.

52. I'm wondering if it means a thing... |
|
I don't think that a public option can coexist with private insurance companies. Both cannot be. We will either have a false public option or private insurance will go pretty much the way of the Dodo. But both cannot be.
The Dems made a mistake repeatedly saying that it will "bring competition" to the insurance companies. No! Two different things! That is staying in the paradigm of "free market profit bullshit". We should not have allowed ourself to fall into that. It made the "PO" look like another insurance company instead of what it is. Taking profit out of health care and setting a new paradigm.
So, no, I am not optimistic. Not at all.
Either private insurance companies will (rightly) claim that a public govt. plan is not "fair competition" and a shitty PO will be all there is OR private companies will not be able to compete and will die out. That would be great, but I do not see it happening.

57. It Looks As Though Women Pay Again |
|
It seems it's perfectly fine with everyone if women are discriminated against in the health care bill. There will be no abortions, even if the woman with five kids will die if she goes on with this next pregnancy. Even if the embryo is damaged beyond repair. Once again our representatives and senators get between a woman and her doctor with no qualms at all
