Just an idea - re: abortion |
|
Why not - maybe as a branch of NOW or NARAL - an organization to finance or partially reimburse, etc. women who need an abortion.
There may be something like this already

1. Agree. If it can be done, a workaround is preferable to govt' provided services. |
|
It would make the anti-choice crowd's heads explode.
They'd be made powerless.

3. Somthing along the lines of a micro loans - Gramin- bank |
|
but just for offsetting the cost of abortions. No federal funds. Except they would be nonprofit and so could possibly get a Tax exempt status

It'd be great if there could be some type of non-profit service women could sign up for to help with reproductive issues.

6. The problem is not necessarily the reimbursement |
|
for the procedure, but instead the high cost of security and the safety of the volunteers. If those organizations start facilitating funding for abortions--they will be threatened, picketed and some will even be killed.

11. I understand the problem, but this is worth consideration |
|
We're not talking about an operation that would neccesitate a fixed brick and mortar site with lots of staff. Send the money to the recipient via wire, or Western Union -- or even Mall Fart LOL --
Anyway, ways could be found to work around having a huge public face...maybe not all threats could be averted

No offense intended. Do you understand the BARRIERS that already exist for those seeking abortions? And you think imposing MORE is okay? Sorry--I don't. It's a fucking legal medical procedure that is nobody's fucking business the woman whose uterus is in question.

17. I agree . . . however, |
|
if roadblocks are put up we have to break them down and until they come down, we need to find a way around them.
This does not set up any road block or condone those that are set up.

|
That should be the only words uttered when this fucking subject comes up. It is stare decisis. If we tried to take the fucking guns away from the gun nuts...they'd kill you. However, the same cadre of idiots think it is okay to take away someone else's reproductive rights and not blink twice.

just for Birth Control pills...I was shocked to see how expensive they have become. And I don't think they're covered unless there is some health reason for them....but definitely NOT for Birth Control.
Planned Parenthood takes donations already.

16. I agree that it should, but even if a roadblock is wrongly put in the way |

there needs to be a detour available.

22. Or you can stand there and yell at the roadblock |
|
instead of try and think of a way to finance an otherwise legal procedure
Again, its not me putting up the roadblock. You want another analogy, then get another analogy.

23. The analogy isn't what I'm taking issue with. The whole not equal under the law thing |
|
is what's chafing me. And I don't think accepting it, detours or no detours, sets a positive precedent.

24. Hey, I'm all for that. I will advocate for it |
|
and donate to the cause of getting it. Until then, a way around it seems to be in order.
Maybe when you are driving down a street and find that a storm has felled a tree across the road, you sit there and yell at the tree. Maybe you get out and jump you and down and yell some more.
I would rather take another route around the roadblock.
The Stupac Amendment seems to be that: a roadblock put up by people with the sense of dead wood. Maybe it can be removed. Until then, go around. sheesh!
