So the supporters of the Stupak POS amendment promised that |
|
40 Dems would not vote for the HCR bill without the anti-abortion amendment, but more than 20 didn't vote for it anyway? Did I hear that right on Rachel? You know, I've always known that the right to choose has never been safe but, call me naive, I didn't see this coming. I figured they'd challenge Roe v Wade again. I hate these holier-than-thou, self-righteous, religious freak, opportunistic bastards. As the president said today, this is a health care bill, not an abortion bill.

3. Obama came out with the statement that he does |
|
not want the status quo changed. In other words Hyde should do the trick and the new amendment should go.

4. The hope is that it gets stripped |
|
when the Senate bill and the House bill are merged in conference. But still, those a-holes that made misleading promises should have retribution heaped upon them.

6. With reid and Webb and a boatload of others in the Senate, there really isn't much hope. |

5. Not quite. He basically said abortion isn't health care, and that isn't really helpful |
|
or hopeful. And he implied their was nothing wring with Hyde, which is a really crappy politcall expedient thing to imply. Here are his quotes:
"this is a health care bill, not an abortion bill"
"we're not looking to change what is the principle that has been in place for a very long time, which is federal dollars are not used to subsidize abortions"
"I want to make sure that the provision that emerges meets that test -- that we are not in some way sneaking in funding for abortions, but, on the other hand, that we're not restricting women's insurance choices."
