Jakob Froese was handed three years' probation after making bombs in a Langton-area farm field.
By DANIEL PEARCE, SUN MEDIA

SIMCOE -- Deemed troubled, but no threat to the public, a 19-year-old man who made bombs on an area farm won't do any time behind bars.

Jakob Froese was put on three years' probation in court this week and will stay with an Aylmer-area family who took him in after he made bail on charges against him.

Justice Brian Stead called Froese's "experiment with making explosives more of a curiosity" and noted a psychiatrist's report indicates he "is not a danger to the public."

Outside court, Neudorf said he'd never met Froese until he and his pastor visited him in a Brantford jail.

He said he was inspired to reach out to him because he has relatives in the same church, Church of God Restoration, from which Froese was "excommunicated."

"I know what goes on in that church," he said. "You conform to their laws or you are shunned."
