Health Insurance, *not* Health Care for pre-existing conditions |
|
My insurance company denies expensive medical treatment all the time. They find numerous, clever ways to do so. The line on "pre-existing conditions" is only one among many, many others.
All these threads about pre-existing conditions do *not* address the common reality that a lot of us already with health insurance do not have health care.
There is absolutely no reason to think that when those with pre-existing conditions get on insurance plans, that they will actually get the life saving expensive medication, surgery, etc. that they need. These insurance companies have armies of workers whose full-time jobs are to deny care.
This is classic bait and switch.

1. that will change. the new system, so far, will have them earning 15% above every |
|
act they perform, which will mean they will do everything you need and don't need. the more procedures, the more money from the taxpayers, just like halliburton in Iraq....

I guess that might be a improvement, but it's still about five times the overhead spent on Medicare. and how much will that figure go up by the time the bill goes through the senate? don't count your chickens before they're hatched. the bill has a long way to go.

6. Interesting perspective! |
|
I always thought of it as them skimming their "guaranteed" 15% off the top and then doling out coverage based on what is left.

11. They take 30% now, so it must have been viewed as an imporement by someone who did not think it |
|
all the way through. Simply put: the more they spend the more they make now. Exactly the opposite of the old system, where the more they spent the less they made. neither system works for the taxpayers. tying costs to medicare costs would be a better way to go. then we would only ahve to check if they are providing decent health care, not checking each billing as well.....

2. Everyone is affected not only those w pre-existing conditions. |
|
There are lots of people that will find out today about a possibly fatal condition needing treatment and have no insurance.
I don't understand the rational of why people condem others for wanting to propose a better bill and perhaps start over. I shouldn't feel bad because I want a better bill.

7. LIFE is a pre-existing condition |
|
We ALL carry "doom genes" within us.. No human lives forever, and we all have conditions within us that are gradually breaking us down, even as we enjoy the bloom of youth.
Once we reach the self-determinant age for each of us, the slide is "one-way". We WILL all get sick from something, and there will be more and more "somethings" as we age.
The reason why we all need health CARE, is to keep us in-touch with doctors who might spot a condition in its incipient form, BEFORE it runs rampant, and becomes incurable...this is why rich people tend to live longer, and seem to survive most of their health care crises.

3. I have been saying that since the beginning of this debate. The corps will still refuse |
|
to pay for procedures and other events, just like they do now. The policy you have will be worth even less than it is now. You will be "covered" but the bills will still not be paid nor approved by the insurers.

5. Medicaid and Medicare deny claims too |

And so will the public option.
There is no utopia.

9. +1 I have been shouting about this for days. |
|
Being allowed to give our money to insurance companies does not mean we will have coverage and get health care.
Those of us with pre-existing conditions should not be shouting for joy about this bill as if it solves all our problems. We aren't helped or protected. We are just allowed to help make insurance companies richer.
When our party is finally willing to mandate access to health care instead of just insurance policies, with protections that have teeth, and give that access to everyone then we can celebrate.

12. Reading this thread it's easy to get the impression none here have read even the bill summaries. |
|
Let alone any part of the bill.
Perhaps all of you have.
I'll admit, I'm getting worn down by all the erroneous conclusions around here.
I have my own reservations about the bill (yes! I know that's hard to believe). But at least I'm reading as much of the bill and as many of the summaries as I can to try to find the answers for myself, instead of assuming that the insurance companies are completely invulnerable and simply have all the power, forever and forever.
