Who is behind the promotion of Sarah Palin's book?
I heard a report today that it is the #1 seller among pre orders. That doesn't surprise me since Walmart and Amazon are in a price war offing it for just $9.00. I was at Borders today and they are taking pre orders at 40% off. Was there a deal made between Rupert Murdoch and Walmart or what?

1. Her publisher? Really, why

don't people here get it that Sarah Plain is very popular? You may not like her but a great many people do and will buy her book. "Going Rogue" went to the top of the bestseller lists soon after its future publication was announced.

2. I don't remember ever hearing about a price war
between two retailers over one book before. Did the publisher create that price war to promote sales? I find it highly suspicious that suddenly they are practically giving away this one book. When the dust clears I'll bet it will be the best seller of the year. If she is so popular I would think it would be a best seller by it's own merits, why would you give it away?

12. Perhaps those who are "giving it away" have

a motive for doing so. I know NewsMax is running a promotion, one of those 'subscribe and get this book for only $x more."

Perhaps others, like Murdoch, are buying up large quantities precisely so it can be sold cheaply, making it available to more people, thereby spreading the message they support.

Why don't liberals do this?

3. I heard that Rupert Murdoch ordered up a ton of copies?.......
Harpers, a sibling of Fox News, is the publisher. They have ordered an advance printing of 1.5 million copies. Ugh. A book that will be seen on thrift store shelves for the rest of time....

5. Exactly. That is why there ought to be a side notice on some "best sellers lists" that
"large quantities" were bought at the same time by "unknown buyers".

9. The New York Times has begun to do this very thing. A dagger symbol is posted with the title...
And the dagger (†) "indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders."

17. THAT is good to hear. I hadn't noticed but

it's only fair that they do so. I pay no attention to best-seller lists because they're rigged and therefore useless as indicators of good books. I only know Palin's doing well on the lists because the fact is publicized a lot in ads online.

6. News Max also bought up tons of them for
their own promotions.

4. You have to remember that certain conservative groups buy a grunch-load in
order to create the "appearance" of a best seller. Certain "stealth buyers" may have bought loads of them ahead of time in order to attempt to push Teddy's Book down below it on the best seller list. Especially when it is coordinated to sell for sooooo cheap. Coincidence? I think not.

7. There are always "deals" when it involves an advance
SP's book will be a dismal failure. I can't imagine having to spend a minute actually listening to her "mis"speak, let alone spend any time actually reading her BS in a book. Obviously there are a few idiots in this world who might identify with her or read it out of curiosity, but... this book isn't ever going be a book that anyone recommends to a friend.

8. It's all bogus. RW groups buy in bulk, then use them as giveaways or in promotions...
There's something called "The Conservative Book Club," where one get 3 books by the likes of O'Reilly, Coulter, Hannity, etc., for $1.00 each, but then you have to pay wholesale for more books. Or, a right-wing site like NewsMax will give away one of these noxious tomes with a year's subscription.

The books are bought as giveaways just to keep the titles on the best-seller list. They also buy placement in all the major bookstores.

For example: The current New York Times Bestsellers includes Glen Beck's "Arguing With Idiots," ranked #5 on the Non-Fiction list. However, there is a dagger symbol next to it -- and "A dagger (†) indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders."

15. Townhall.com and Newsmax have bought tens of thousands if not more.
Townhall and Richard Melon Scaife's minions have preordered lots of her book. Townhall advertises constantly on RW radio that they will send you a free copy of her book if you sign up for their bullshit.
