5. Fantastic!
I was reading this bill stalled in the New Hampshire legislature...there was uncertainity about the intentions of the Governor. I'm glad the Governor did the right thing!

Congratulations to the gay and lesbian people of New Hampshire!

And next...my state, Illinois. :-)

7. After yesterday's Supreme Court decision on PBA, the Dobson crowd must
have been whoopin' it up somethin' fierce.

With this decision from New Hampshire, they'll end the week with their glass half full.

Good for New Hampshire. Kerry-Edwards proved to be a persuasive ticket there in 04 and flipped the state blue. I think it's going to stay blue for some time to come.

LGBT citizens deserve the same shake as everybody else.

8. Good.
It's really an interesting phenomenon, the way the states differ on this issue. My state (WI) is unfortunately one of several that's written anti-gay/lesbian discrimination into its constitution. Major props to New Hampshire for, you know, acting like human beings.

9. Why do so many of the good places have to have all that nasty cold weather?
Let's see: Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, and now New Hampshire.

Oh... and the entire country of Canada.

(yes, i know Cali and Hawaii too... but we could never afford to live there)

We would love to live somewhere that we could "make it legal", but we both suffer to an aversion to prolonged sub-freezing temps.

We're getting there. It's going to be a battle, but we'll win.

Local NH news is reporting that he says he will sign it once it clears the state senate, it cleared the house but it's still not a done deal yet.

Good for him.

Bad day for our theocratic minority.

Lynch says he will sign civil unions bill

The Associated Press
April 19. 2007 12:38PM

Gov. John Lynch said today that he will sign legislation establishing civil
unions in the state. New Hampshire thus will become the fourth state to
adopt civil unions and the first to do so without first having a court fight
over denying gays the right to marry. “I believe it is a matter of conscience,
fairness and preventing discrimination,” Lynch said in an interview with
The Associated Press.

Although Lynch had said previously he supports expanding health benefits
to same-sex partners of state workers, he had declined to take a public
position on civil unions. He came under fire from both sides for not weighing
in – especially after the surprise delay last week of the Senate vote on the
House-passed bill.

Some legislators had worried the Democratic governor might part company
on the bill with Democrats who control the House and Senate for the first
time in more than a century.

He said he announced his position on the bill after extensive discussions
with lawmakers, including most of the 24 state senators.

Wow! That's quite a lot like what Mr. Tesha and I each communicated
to Governor Lynch. 'Guess it worked, ehh?
