That bastard P.M. Harper continues his revamping of Canada to fit his image! |
|
This has been disgustingly evident from the day he became Prime Minister. He is so arrogantly sure of the superiority of his own ideas, that he has ploughed ahead forcing his will even though he only has a minority government. He has acted as if he had a majority and brought in one change after another. His main efforts have been directed at wiping out the footprint of the Liberals. He knows that since he was elected to govern (through deceptively pretending he was middle of the road), the opposition Liberals have been powerless to stop him. One of the first things he did was cancel the Kelowna Accord which was an important agreement the Liberal government had signed with the aboriginals and yet in this new citizenship book he issued today, in order to seem like he is pro - indigenous people, he makes a big deal out of calling them one of the founding parties of Canada. Anything to buy votes. One of the disgusting changes he has brought to Canadian politics is the practice of airing on TV scurilous ads defining the opposition leaders to the public when there isn't even an election campaign going on. This was never done before in our country. Previously political ads only appeard at election time. If only the citizens of this country all knew about how, shortly before he became leader of the Conservative Party, he was speaking before right-wing groups in the U.S.A. and making fun of Canada.....calling us a third rate socialist country etc...etc.. Not to mention his going on Fox TV as opposition leader, appologizing for Canada not joining in the Iraq war! Now he pretends to be the great Canadian patriot...bragging constantly that Canada is better than any other country at doing everything! Before Harper was first elected, I saw Ralph Reed the right-wingnut from the Christian Coalition in the U.S.A., on Canadian TV. I was flipping through the channels and there he was on CTS, the Christian network, saying that he could give Harper a sure-fire recipe for winning the election. I later read where he was one of Harper's advisers. All I can say is I hope and pray that he never gets a majority government or God help us! I hope you don't mind...perhaps I should have put this in the Canada forum, but I'm just so pissed off I wanted it to get a wider read....Thanks for letting me vent my feelings!

3. Liberals failed once, they need to not fail again to unseat Harper again |

I hope the Liberals would team up with the NDP instead of grand wanton greed to govern by themselves and unseat Harper's demented government for the better of Canadians.

dividing 63% of the vote three or 4 ways is not a good idea.

11. I feel the very same outrage. I'm sure that he has hired a swath of American neocons |

as backroom advisers. I have long thought that neocons for many years dismissed Canada as irrelevant but have since changed their views and now realize that the existence of Canadian health care, reduced military spending, absence of xhristian fanaticism etc has been detrimental to neocon plans.
What is also different is the blatant partisan news media that shade every story to Harper's advantage for instance photos of Harper are complementary, those of Ignatiff decidedly uncomplimentary, a glaring example was a photo of a frowning sweaty Ignatiff which the the Globe and Mail ran twice in one week during last summer, whereas all the news media ran complimentary photos of Harper playing a piano at a gala. It came out much later that photo journalists weren't allowed to photograph Harper during the gala - all the photos of this event (photos that made all the front pages) had been carefully staged prior to the performance.
Harper is as dangerous as Bush and I wouldn't be surprised if Rove was involved as an adviser. I am also royally pissed at Layton for handing Harper the opportunity to get elected by bringing down Paul Martin.

12. It worked for Bush and still seems to be working in our country. |
|
I thought you guys had gotten rid of Harper through your parliament. Why is he still there? Your conservatives seem to be borrowing the same tactics from our criminal conservatives. The big money backs the media in this country and therefore the corporate stooges and whores in our government by taking over the media and spreading their propaganda. It looks like you are getting the same. Don't let it happen!

You guys have to block him every way you can or you are going to end up with elections that aren't reliable like ours.

25. The trial of the Gitmo detainees (one Canadian) shows again Harper's wrong-headed thinking. |
|
Omar Khadr, who was 15 years old (a child soldier) when captured in Afghanistan by American forces will be tried in an American court as a war criminal. His nutty father took him, as a 13 year old child to Afghanistan to fight against the Americans. What child of 13 would defy their father? Right at this moment, there is a trial going on in the Supreme Court of Canada to decide whether the Canadian government should be forced to request the return of Khadr to Canadian soil for trial. All the other allied countries, (Australia, Great Britain e.g.) had their citizens turned over to them years ago by requesting it of the Americans. Harper, as could be predicted, refused to follow this path and did it his own way....saying he did not wish to interfere in the workings of the American justice system....although I'm sure the U.S.A. would have preferred to be rid of Khadr. As usual, Harper is tone-deaf and on the wrong side of this issue....the bastard!
