McCain regarding "Bomb Iran" song: "... was just trying to add a little humor to the event"

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2007/04/american_idol_f.html

<snip>

ABC News' Bret Hovell and Teddy Davis report: John McCain's campaign insists he was only kidding when he combined a Beach Boys impression with foreign policy Wednesday before a group of veterans at a VFW hall in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

...

McCain campaign spokesman Kevin McLaughlin points out that the Senator's song was not serious and the people in the room were laughing. "He was just trying to add a little humor to the event."

Do you suppose that this is worse than Dean's much-over-hyped "scream?" And do you suppose that the media will give it the same 24/7 attention for weeks and weeks?

53. Different rules these days
Even a year ago, I wouldn't have said this, but these days, it really doesn't matter as much as it used to whether the MSM gives it the appropriate attention. If we, the internet denizens choose to highlight it, it will be highlighted. And if we are lucky enough that he gets the nomination, it will be hyped more than the kiss. There is just so much to work with in destroying John McCain these days - he's been his own worst enemy for a while now.

7.  John McCain was in a goddam cage for 5 years in Viet Nam.
It seems to me that that ought to have heightened his sense of mercy. I doubt if Iranians, who must be passing this news piece around by now, are humored by McCain's callousness.

I don't want pro-torture Attorney Generals running the Justice Department and I don't want bomb-crazy Republicans in the White House.

14. My thought exactly
And this:
I don't want pro-torture Attorney Generals running the Justice Department and I don't want bomb-crazy Republicans in the White House.
is a sad but accurate description of our current f-ed up administration, so we can only hope that we don't renew it in '08.

the grassroots organization and work harder than ever.

And god knows we need to work hard to get these monsters out of Washington.

38. Sad to say, I think you're right -- McCain is altered by his wish
for power.

The degree that it's changed him is what's so disturbing. Bush is unsupported by increasingly huge percentages of voters, and McCain is actually stepping up his endorsements of Bush's failed policies, especially the "surge."

Pretty misguided soul at this point.

And we all remember how kind and generous the mighty Republican Wurlitzer and the Outrage Machine were over Kerry's little joke about Bush screwing over the military. So lighten up, everyone! Jokes about bombing brown people in faraway lands who can't fight back, can't get away, and who've done nothing to are funny, funny, funny!

27. Yes McCain, it is very humerous to bomb people.
When I was in the air force this officer told me how funny it was when he was in Vietnam in his jet firing bullets in a lake where a fisherman was frantically trying to row out of harm's way. Geez, isn't war so much fun.
