Assassination-themed bumpersticker |
|
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_FbaTT_Aky10/Sv_5ZmhNBwI/AAAAAAAAAXo/UNAM4ULKgoo/s400/PRAY+FOR+OBAMA.jpgThis seemingly innocent bumpersticker (available from CafePress) has been stirring up chatter on wingnut sites. Here’s the psalm in its entirety. Here are the lines the wingnuts say they are joking about: 8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. And here are the lines that immediately follow: 9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. ( via)

You don't know the truth of the afterlife - or even if there is one - any better than anyone else.
I swear, atheism is as judgmental as fundamental Christianity, Islam or Judaism.

|
I think it's important that our government shows that it takes 18 USC § 871. Threats against President and successors to the Presidency seriously. Those who violate the law even by something as stupid as making or showing a coded bumper sticker will be held to account for their deeds. And even for something that stupid it's not a waste of time to report it.

46. Psalms is Old Testament; Christ is New Testament. |
|
The OT is all about the Old Covenant and mostly useful to Christians as Salvation History, prefiguring the events of the NT, although some Psalms are also beautiful poetry.
This particular Psalm prefigures the acts of Judas Iscariot and others against Judas; the imprecations are against Judas and his allies.
The bumper sticker is stupid but idiots can misuse anything. King David didn't write that Psalm for idiots to misuse.

I've read comments on this merch ... these folks are targeting the phrases: 8 May his days be few (life be short) in other translations; may another take his place of leadership. 9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. Evidentially, they figured no one else, especially a Democrat, would have read the Bible and understood their cynical message. 17. This interpretation is truly cracked |
|
It's a long psalm, the first part could easily show Obama as being persecuted by the brainless, the middle cursing against his enemies, which is unlike Obama, who isn't the cursing type, and then goes back to the speaker appealing to God.
Surely this is Obama speaking --
1: "Hold not your tongue Oh God of my praise, for the mouth of the wicked, the mouth of the deceitful, is opened against me. 2: "They speak to me with a lying tongue; they encompass me with hateful words and fight against me without a cause. 3: "Despite my love, they accuse me; but as for me, I pray for them. 4: "They repay evil for good, and hatred for my love."
There follows a very long cursing section against all these wicked people, including line 8, cited in the sticker.
Then in line 28(speaking, of course, of the Republicans): "Let my accusers be clothed with disgrace and wrap themselves in their shame as in a cloak."
Which just goes to show you that we can argue any position by using the Bible, and such exercise is ultimately a futile task. For those who have trouble understanding irony, this is an ironic post.

but I'm totally with him here. I've never been a fan of vigilantism.
You're free to make your own bumper sticker that says, "The people with the anti-Obama Psalm 109 bumper stickers are full of shit" or some such, but vandalizing their cars or other property is just begging for retaliation.
That's how wars get started.
And you won't win a single convert to your side by doing so--more likely you'd be doing the opposite since it will make them look like they're the victims.

|
Arrest warrants go down to the minutes so every minute that you have an ounce of pot or more in Illinois you commit a felony. I have committed roughly 2 million felonies, and 2 million misdemeanors in my life before I left the USA. I only got caught once and was found innocent due to lack of evidence. If you put sugar in the tank do it where it is dark and you should be fine. A felony is only a felony if you get caught and convicted. Like I said I have committed millions of felonies and millions of misdemeanors and I find that the police usually do not catch you.
