21. Ya know, I saw him raise his hand..but never heard him say "I DO" |
|
Maybe it was just a glitch or maybe he had the fingers on his other hand crossed? But..I do not even recall seeing his lips move???
anyway..he was not sworn in at the begining, not till all the Senators had their opening statements and just before Abu gave his testimony...could result in someone thinking he was not sworn in?

12. That was in re: an earlier hearing. |
|
The point was that Spector had forgone the oath over Feingold's objections & now feels betrayed because Gonzales ratfucked him by abusing that courtesy & lying, which is why Spector was so harsh in his questioning today.

He put up his hand when asked if he would tell the truth.
I didn't hear a response. Did he answer the question?
Did anyone actually hear Gonzo's reponse?

18. Leahy didn't administer the FULL oath, but I'm told this does not matter |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-19-07 12:20 PM by derby378
Leahy only said, "Do you solemnly swear to tell the whole truth, so help you God?"
I think protocol dictates that (1) the respondent be asked "Do you solemnly swear or affirm..." and (2) that the respondent tell "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."
I've been told that the whole statement does not have to be issued, but I'd appreciate some clarification on this.

There is a severe injunction in biblical teachings against swearing by god, the earth, or any other thing, and for those who subscribe to fealty to the god of christianity, this is of powerful importance. To those of us who do not hold such fealty, there is no particular power that extends beyond death to try to assure truthfulness when the temptation to lie is overwhelming.
However, Gonzales and his bunch seem to hold all three positions, simultaneously.
From numerous discussions in my own classes, many years ago, it makes no real difference, in the temporal, physical sense, as long as some form of promising to tell the truth is administered. All penalties sorrounding abandoning the truth during testimony apply, although the administration of those penalties seems all too subject to the whim and vindictiveness of the officials involved.
Senator Specter revealed his inexperience as a prosecutor in his zeal to accord undeserved respect to representatives of the most lieing outfit in history with his pass on the oath in an earlier hearing.
It is painfully obvious to anyone who has followed the arguments that take place in corgress that lieing to congress is no big deal, at all, since they do it constantly, all day, every day they are in session and in almost every conversation they have, as well as their statements to the press and to the citizens.
