Newsweek poll: 49% want a Dem prez in 2008
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16712630/site/newsweek/

28% want a Republican.

In this poll, Edwards does the best in a matchup with Guiliani or McCain, as compared with other anointed Dem frontrunners.

1. That's why
Edwards is drawing so much fire here. IMO, we need to curb our tendency here on DU to be drawn into false arguments against candidates... any of them. Discussing sustainable homes is one thing but to dismiss a candidate on this one issue is 'freeper' led logic.

2. You're saying he's being flamed because he might win?
And the only reason for doing so is to attack a frontrunner and has nothing to do with anything else?

Just checking, and I'm not a fan of the crusade against Edwards over this, btw.

3. Edwards is not my first choice either
but I do know from posting here a couple of years that there are factions that actually pay posters to stir sh*t up and there are legitimately concerned DUers here that will follow because the tactic has to contain some fact about the candidate in order for it to work. DU is a prominent democratic forum so of course we will have our 'share' of these noodles working us over.

I am a proponent of living as 'green' as possible but think this hullabaloo about Edwards is smoke because he is a threat to the gop frontrunners.

4. Excellent point
If I see another 'house' post I'll bash my head into my keyboard. Edwards isn't my first choice either, but we all need to refrain from adding our voices to the noisy chorus.

13. just click the hide thred box without even opening it
even responding "stop it" kicks the OP and supports the agitators in getting it in front of those who will take the bait. House OP's should all just sit there un-responded-to & unread, and fade into obscurity. Discipline, discipline, discipline! Don't peek! Just hide the thread!

8. so it seems
I have to say I think we have some great people running on our side....so far the republican side is looking pretty weak.

I have favorite...but I can't say I will depressed if my first choice doesn't get the nomination..there are just so many good strong people to choose from this time.

10. Maybe many of us are fed up with the false , phony arguments in favor
of candidates. I feel like I'm being constantly subjected to a Bush/Cheney 2000 political spin.

7. You mean Edwards isn't?
Hmmm... supported the IWR, wrote legislation favoring Big Banking, currently rattling sabers against Iran.

You know, some of us aren't paid operatives and don't give a frig about his house, but simply DO NOT like his policies and his willingness to change to fit whatever is politically expedient.

9. There is no way the American public will vote Edwards (a personal injury attorney)commander-in-chief
in 2008, especially once the hair video becomes common knowledge. Those polls are pure b.s.

11. im sorry but i have look at every poll very sceptically.
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 08:57 AM by bullimiami
i do believe more people than not want a democratic president.

i dont believe that edwards is any sort of front runner. i like him fine, i just dont believe there is anything that sets him ahead of hillary, gore or obama. And matchups, that is just stupid.

14. Last question most interesting: only 26% report themselves as Republicans!
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 09:18 AM by mnhtnbb
37% Dems and 33% Independents (the rest don't know or don't care)

This kind of response ought to scare the shit out of the Republican party. It's a much easier step to vote for Dems if you've either changed your party registration to independent or no longer consider yourself a Republican--even if still registered as one.
