Man brings donkey to testify on its own behalf
DALLAS - Faced with complaints that his donkey was too loud, Dallas attorney Gregory Shamoun decided to bring his case directly to the court: He had the donkey testify.

Buddy the donkey appeared in court Wednesday. He walked to the bench and stared at the jury, the picture of a gentle, well-mannered creature and not the loud, aggressive animal he had been accused of being.

Shamoun was in a dispute with oilman John Cantrell, who had complained to the city about a storage shed Shamoun was building in his backyard in Dallas. Cantrell said Shamoun retaliated by bringing the donkey from his ranch and putting him in the backyard.

1. Buddy is so cute! Donkeys can be loud, but if livestock is allowed
in that land use zone then he should be abble to stay. Anyway, donkey poop doesn't smell very bad at all. I have a horse (who lives with 21 other horses) and I scoop a lot of poop. It makes great compost. You just need some fly traps during the spring and summer.

8. BLM. Huh.
I'm dealing with a situation where someone imported a bunch of BLM horses and can't seem to deal with them. But they're "wild", so they don't need hoof trimming. Guess what? Yes they do.

Huh, like there aren't enough horses in Canada.

:hi:

11. Naw
these horses have been here for a year. Lots of time to have them well mannered enough that they will pick up their feet. Instead, we have a rodeo, and me getting slandered all over the "horsey" discussion boards.

Oh well, water, meet duck.

12. erk
:hide: have a 20 year old paint pet that has never had his feet worked on. But I have rocks.

In fact the only time I have seen badly overgrown hooves is the BLM burro I mentioned above. She used to run with the cows and one year (when was that?) we had a really good summer so she apparently didn't have to travel much at all to stay fat and her feet were LONG - I had seen pictures but never "in person" - that was a bit of a rodeo to fix, but I just watched. hee hee

13. Rocks and sand are natural farriers.
Check out this link. The article is pedantic, but the photos are illustrative and graphic (kudos to the photographer :eyes: )

5. not guilty!!!
I couldn't be on a jury for a donkey... they are SO CUTE.

I wonder how they kept him from prejudicing the jury by doing that thing that horses do in parades. I hope Buddy didn't have to have an enema before his court date. (Insert your own wish for Gonzales here.)

9. Aw what a cutie. I love that blaze face--never saw on on a donkey before.
Alright donkeys do tend to bray--especially around feeding time--but this little fellow is so cute how could anybody hate him.

17. Blaze the Donkey
I also like that blaze. It struck me as unusual to see that on a donkey too. What an adorable creature.
