So. The last two nights my wife's cell has received calls from Saudi Arabia bet. 11PM and 2 AM. |
|
One left a message - couldn't understand the message, of course. Last night I picked one up - ditto (male voice, foreign language). Kind of freaking us out - what would you do? Have the number blocked? Ignore it? We've no connection at all to S. A. - nor do any of our family members or friends.

2. Sometimes when people dial a phone, they mistakenly hit the wrong numbers. |
|
In fact, it's usually called just that - a wrong number. People generally tend to ignore them.

16. Someone probably wrote down the wrong number and keeps trying not realizing the error. |
|
Someone called us from Cali sporadically over three months leaving long messages to let us know how they were getting on. We finally called them back after they left a message congratulating us on the birth of our non-existent child to let them know somebody else was not getting their calls. Years ago, an obviously older man from Nova Scotia left me long, half sobbing, half drunken voice messages filled with nostalgic memories every Sunday for about a month.

It could be someone with family in the US and the call could be very important.
It's just a shame it's not a language the recipient understands so the message is not getting relayed.

19. Yes, and if they're total bozos, they hit "redial." |
|
Since there were two calls, it's obviously important, maybe important enough that the caller finally punched the damn number in again.
Aint technology great?

Since you don't know who called, or what they said, you might be in for a visit from the guys in the black suits and black Suburbans.

9. Somebody gave their relative back home the wrong number... |
|
...or that person jotted down the number wrong.
It happens. I had a woman call me for weeks leaving messages for her sister, even after I called her back and explained that she must have the wrong number. I also think that my cell number must have previously belonged to a local Lothario as I've gotten several entertaining messages from women.

My friend has a landline number that used to belong to an anger management center and is apparently still listed on court documents given to people required to undergo anger management therapy.
Talk about some crazy messages!
My friend is a bit of an angry guy himself and he very politely assures people they will have to look elsewhere for help dealing with anger issues as he is most certainly not qualified to do so.

28. We used to get 2 AM calls from some Russian guy asking for 'Ivan'. |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-21-09 02:15 PM by juno jones
Maybe it was Russian debt collectors because he never seemed to take 'No Ivan here' for a definitive answer. He'd always call back the next week.
It was a new number and we had it changed within a few weeks because we were getting odd calls in the middle of the night from other people as well.
One place I worked had a number 1 digit different than the local Rite-aid pharmacy. THAT was a hoot. I always hated answering the phone because many of the older people blind enough to misdial the number didn't hear so good either and it was hard to tell them a, this is a wrong number, b, here's the real number.
PS: On edit, if the problem persists, ask for a new number. I don't think they let numbers sit as long as they should anymore and it's easy to get one that someone else gave to half the state (or universe):).
