I volunteered at an H1N1 immunization center this weekend... |

one of five in the City; mine dispensed about 1,000 immunizations yesterday. No sign that vaccines were in short supply, and nobody was turned away if they weren't in one of the "at-risk" categories. I'm wondering if this whole vaccine "crisis" story is being overblown.
Two observations: Chassidic Jews have very, very large families; and small kids can really scream...

3. Try finding it in Westchester county - |
|
they are making vaccine so each week the supply gets better. 50% of people in the city decided not to immunize their children so that freed up vaccine supplies in NYC. Some people prefer that natural route of immunziation - get the diesease. Actually H1N1 in the city peaked in May -estimate was 10% already had it in NYC back by May 2009

6. Their will be enough vaccines for EVERYONE eventually |
|
There have been two bottlenecks: 1) more vaccine than nasal sprayer for the FluMist version (there is a bunch of it sitting around at the manufacturer becasue no more nasal injectors are availiable...looking into making a dropper version perhaps) 2) For the injectible version the H1N1 virus was growing slower than expected in the eggs delaying the availiability of it. So the manufacturers could not live up to promised dates and that slowed the process down..The Mist version can only be given to certain groups as well (4-49 and no pregnant women). Thank you for helping distribute, as someone who is basically on the manufacturing end, I understand how vital people like you are to the process..:)

You can't tell me that I could have received a shot even a week ago.

8. I got my H1N1 shot yesterday. LA County paid for the clinic, |

staffed by Red Cross. They had all sorts of signs about priority groups and telling people to wait, etc, but all you did was check off boxes. Nobody did any interrogating or asking for proof of circumstances. I was glad, because we veterinarians, though we can spread it to and kill our feline patients, don't technically fall into a priority group. Which is stupid, because we do not know one way or the other whether the cats we give it to can give it back. You would think caution would prevail until we DO know.......
