6. Geez, I'm sitting here crying now |
|
In elementary school I took my fair share of getting picked on. When you're reading Agatha Christie in second grade, scholarly Holocaust tomes in third and fourth, and make your mother get a subscription to Newsweek in fifth - yeah, you're going to get picked on. Oh, and did I mention horrible acne?
Funny, though, that the only thing that still burns is people asking someone else how to spell stuff the year I was only runner-up in the spelling bee.
Middle school was a little bit better, and by high school the whispers I heard in the halls and class about me were positive. So I made it out okay, fortunately.
I would always gravitate towards the kids who were ostracized. All of them were really good and kind people. They just lacked social skills. Most of them would probably be diagnosed as somewhere on the autistic scale today.

12. When I was in second grade - my favorite book - |
|
still one of my favorites was "Harry the Dog" the whole series. Harry goes to the Beach, etc... - when I was older I went out of my way to find the damn books and give them to my kids.
Ostracized peoples - see in my high school- most of us were stoned most of the time - so everyone was truly equal to me in my eyes.
I went to El Camino High - they win the academic decathalon most years now (I probably didn't spell that right, But I went to El Camino in the 70s - we don't care about spelling too much).
Jesus - the only thing high school is useful for IS social skills.
That is the most important thing anyway - learn how to deal with the opposite sex. If not for that we could all skip high school.
IMO

Ummmmm.... Joe, what does Harry the Dog have to do with anything? Were you made fun of because you read this? I don't see the connection. I don't mean to be rude, but it seems like you're trying to make things about you. And also High School is not just about social skills, and there's more to life than just the opposite sex. But that was a beautiful video with a strong message. Thanks for sharing. :)

25. Oh shit - did you ever read the Harry series. |
|
And I admit I went to a high school were most people were stoned most of the time -
But I am not now - and I still like Harry the Dog.
and I am a published writter now - (wow)
I STILL LIKE HARRY THE DOG!!!
You think high school is not about social interaction - really, where did you go man??
Maybe I should have gone there... if it didn't interfere with getting stoned.

I've read the book before. And everyone has their childhood favorites, but how could you be a "published writer" if you can't even spell correctly. I believe you type your words, so how can you not know where the letters and the numbers are on the keyboard?

28. That is why I had it proofed 5 times. |
|
I hate typing. I know I suck. I don't like it.
But I am published. They seemed to understand I could type faster than I think.
How do I do that?- I am pretty sloppy.
I wrote "On A Wing and a Prayer".
FMJ Pacheco.
They gave me a lot of liberty in that.
And Harry the Dog - It was great!!
Still my favorite book - (except mine)

I'm not going to get any more off topic than I already am and ruin this post. Don't you have family to get home to or anything else to do? or has the computer abducted you?

7. The first time I heard this song year's ago... |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-19-07 05:53 PM by RC Quake
I gave a homeless man $20. The song touched me so much that this homeless man I saw almost daily and never gave a second glance at got my sympathy that day. When I handed him the money, he handed it back and said it was too much.
Edited to add that Mark Wills sings it so much better!

11. "Look at me through eyes of love ..." |
|
Reminds me of a song I wrote years ago, I'll just pen the chorus here.
Look at me through eyes of love, my heart heard him say Give me shelter from the storm, please don't turn away If not for the grace of God, you would walk in my shoes Look at me through eyes of love, see what I've been through.
I have compassion for those who have been hurt by others, but vengeance from the victim is not the answer. (Reference to Cho.)

It's important to realize that with the turn of events, anyone could be in the shoes of another. Compassion and understanding are a vital to a more humane world.

And it was worth every minute. Beautiful, and I love Peter, Paul & Mary - good people. I've mostly been the outcast all of my life; just never seemed to fit in anywhere til I found DU. Thanks, Sapphire Blue, for posting this video. Hope all is well with you.
