Snow-free November for Toronto
It's been very mild so far this year in Canada.

Toronto is set to record its first snow-free November since the weather office started keeping records in 1937, but one expert suggests this is no guarantee of a mild winter to come.

With temperatures expected to stay between 6 C and 8 C through the first three days of the week, it's unlikely any snow will fall in the city before Thursday at the earliest.

..... I can only think of one or two days where the high has been below 50 in a long while.

3. I'm well North of Toronto and we have almost no snow
I've shovelled once. I bought a brand new snowblower for this year and it's got dust on it.

5. Halifax got stomped once, but it's been 'warm' ever since
The only snowfall we've gotten was about 15 centimeters a few weeks ago, and that was gone almost immediately. We usually have a mostly green Christmas, but there's at least dustings before that by now most years.

6. Really for Minnesota as well
a few flurries up north this last weekend, but nothing that stayed on the ground and nothing considered measureable. It's not unusual to get some and have it melt in a day or so but it's very rare to get no measurable accumulation in November. We actually got more in October this year and while snow in October isn't that odd - it's really weird to get more then than November.

7. We just got our first snow this morning in Ottawa
Just a dusting, but it's still on the ground. So we almost set a record here as well.

Anyone who can't cope with Centigrade can simply skip threads about Canada weather, I think. BTW...Canada is also in America, as is Mexico. North Americans all.

26. Halfway.
I see usefulness in standardizing parts and tools and even linear and volume measure to metric because of the ease of equations, but I don't see how the temperatures fits into that. 7ºC doesn't mean anything to me. Besides, resistance for resistance's sake.

I do find it odd that some folks get all upset about the most trivial things, like words, being "eurocentric" but they have no problem with the essential communications of the world, ie measures being eurocentric.

9. No snow accumulation in Minnesota in November this year,
either. At least in the Twin Cities. November '09 will be the second warmest November on record. Ever.

As an aside, we also had no Summer to speak of. No big thunderstorms and very little rain. It was way cooler than normal over the entire season.

Climate change is here, I believe. Still, I have the snowblower all tuned up for the winter.

17. No ice fishing in Minnesota either it looks like

My niece's husband isn't going to bother getting his ice hut and equipment out of storage this winter.

He doesn't expect the ice will be thick enough to be safe.

21. Oh, it will be by January, even near the cities.
I don't ice fish, though, so it doesn't really matter to me. Fishing was very strange this year, though. Even though I caught my first muskie, it was a very slow spring and summer for fishing. I hope that's better next year.

I did do well on the Mississippi this year, though, so maybe I'll shift my fishing to the river this year.

23. That's gotta be waaaay on the outskirts of town.
From the NWS website:

Has Phoenix ever recorded snowfall during the winter?

As a matter of fact, yes! The greatest snowfall in one season for Phoenix was 1 inch, set in 1932-1933 and tied in 1936-1937.

24. Seen a few flakes in Cleveland today, the first this year.
But they're not sticking.

Which is weird, because some parts of Pennsylvania and New York had snow in mid-October. Us? We got nothin'.

25. Syracuse New York has gone a record 279 days (and counting) without snow.
The Post Standard had an article on snowfall over the last century or so. In general , the seasonal amount of snow is increasing, but the days of snow cover is decreasing. Lake Ontario is gradually warming up. The warmer it is, the more water evaporates. The ground rises as you go away from the Lake, so the moisture drops out as snow when you hit the sweet spot (which just happens to be my drive way, no kidding!)

If the trend continues, sooner or later we'll get 10 foot of snow on one day which will melt away the next, and that'll be it for winter!
