The Nation -The Afghan Pipeline You Don't Know About

"Well, speak of the dead and not-quite-buried. It turns out that, in April, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India (acronymically TAPI) signed a Gas Pipeline Framework Agreement to build a U.S.-backed $7.6 billion pipeline. It would, of course, bypass Iran and new energy giant Russia, carrying Turkmeni natural gas and oil to Pakistan and India. Construction would, theoretically, begin in 2010. Put the emphasis on "theoretically," because the pipeline is, once again, to run straight through Kandahar and so directly into the heartland of the Taliban insurgency. "

Hmmm, new US backed pipeline will need go directly through the heartland of the Taliban insurgency...hmmm How can we do that unless....

9. You forgot the sarcasm icon.....
Chances of CIA declassifying JFK files are more likely than this getting mentioned...

American public must believe the fiery-tale of American exceptionalism not the true nature of foreign policy - natural resource grabs - otherwise no one would join the military to keep the country "free".....

Suckers

I am unfortunately becomming sceptical. I knew obama intended to go heavier into Afghanistan, but so many of his policies seem to be about benefiting the status quo. I am losing my confidence we are doing things for the right reasons.

19. The "war on terror" is manufactured to benefit the Few Big
And that's that. Nothing more to it. The enormous propaganda effort, and the scores of people it employs at various levels, in various institutions, speaks to how flimsy its premise is, and the subsequent, urgent NEED to make fantasy 'real' by having the American public believe what those Few Big want them to believe. That it all appears so confusing, and in need of so many 'experts' only increases the overall need to perpetuate the illusion - whole lotta careers and big $ on the line.

13. Bullshit.
The United States will do its part to stabilize the area so that new pipeline infrastructure can be built to service the Indian subcontinent. India is the key. Forget the pipelines that exist. It is now about what is to be built. We-the United States-are in the Middle East to control who gets AND DOES NOT GET the petro-resources.

Like it or not, the United States is a "has been." We are not part of the emerging New World Order. Our importance in the world is on the decline. If China is the 900 lb. elephant in the room, India is the 900 lb. tiger.

The TAPI pipeline will never be built. It's an anal tonsillectomy -- you can get the tonsils out via that route, but it's rarely done, and very difficult.

14. And it is geopolitical. The pipeline is only being built to compete with Russia
Edited on Tue Dec-01-09 03:47 PM by Go2Peace
Russia already has a pipeline that is being created to deliver oil to the same markets. This pipeline is simply for geopolitical purposes, to put control of the regional oil in US multinational corporate control, instead of the competition.

So my question is: Are we about to put our soldiers in harms way so that "our" oil companies can secure a market?

Worse yet, Brzezinski has been talking bout it since 1997.

I am, however, heartened to see on this thread so many who also "get it".
I am disheartened that we will always be a minority in this country who get it.

22. Obama is joining the Empire building community.
We all know this isn't about BinLaden or a war on terror, its about the continuation of America's corporate manifest destiny. Unfortunately there seems to always be people so blinded by greed they're blind to history and what happens to ALL empires.

This shit was preordained long before Obama was put in charge. You can read all about it in "The Grand Chessboard - American Primacy and its Geostrategic imperatives". Obama and any politician who pushes these policies are basically public relations for the average American to be suckered into supporting military action where the economic hit men and jackals have been unsuccessful.

This first year of office has shown Obama to be just another corporatist wall street'er. What a shame.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Afghanistan_Pipeline#Route

"The 1,680 kilometres (1,040 mi) pipeline will run from the Dauletabad gas field to Afghanistan. From there TAPI will be constructed alongside the highway running from Herat to Kandahar, and then via Quetta and Multan in Pakistan. The final destination of the pipeline will be the Indian town of Fazilka, near the border between Pakistan and India.<3>"
