Obama, the great disappointment? By Mark Morford
The Miracle President hasn't actually accomplished much? Wrong

I am here to report some good news. Times have changed. Things are not what they once were. Evolution has occurred, is occurring, just now occurred while you were reading this very sentence.

Did you feel it? Are you noticing? The new has fully arrived to replace the old, and the old is going to have to take a long nap under a tree and watch what happens while the new delves in even deeper and does the best it can under the circumstances.

There is much talk, for example, of the man known as President Obama, of his effect and impact so far, his supposed lack of marked accomplishment lo these first dozen months of this most historic and revolutionary of presidencies -- a period, by the way, I am absolutely convinced we will all look back on in 10 or 20 years and go, oh my God, there. Remember that? That was a time, wasn't it? We will sigh and smile and point at the historic pictures and say, dear God, how incredible that was. It was a difficult time, there was much acrimony and resistance, but it was amazing. And it changed everything.

But not so fast. Back here in the dwindling twilight of the '00s, there is much puling from the liberal left that Obama has not done nearly enough, quickly enough, that his list of accomplishments is no list at all and is more of a giant, infuriating shrug. Many are saying he's not all he's cracked up to be because he has yet to completely revolutionize every aspect of human life as we know it by instantly turning everything organic, curing all diseases and setting all gay military personnel free to romp in the fields of boot camp. ...

3. History probably will prove Obama right ...
but, unlike Bush43, who the above statement was applied to, it won't need anywhere near as much whitewashing and rewriting of history and blatant ignoring of reality to prove Obama right ...

5. President O is right with me
I'll take him over any of the others that could have possibly been our present President. I'll go a step or two further, I like the man for the love he shows me and when I say me I really mean all of us. The man loves his country just as I or most of us here does and I'll support him up to and until he pulls his pants down and takes a big ole gwb on the sidewalk in front of the white house, probably then will I find an excuse to continue to like him. President Obama has a heavy load to carry and I'm here to help him carry that load. Proud to have voted for him twice already and plan to continue voting for him as long as he is in the running.

32. not lately ... history is being produced by the "liberal media" ...
witness ... comparisons between coverage of "Gay Pride" events and "Tea Parties" ... lots of coverage of 400lb truckers in drag for the "Gay Pride" ... but mainstream media doesn't focus on the people who don't know the Constitution from a Rachel Ray cookbook at the teabirther events ...

6. Oh, for Christ's sake!!!
The guy isn't in office for one year and all I've been seeing and hearing from left and right is "What a disappointment Obama is ..."

Yea, I'm not happy about some of the things he's doing (or not doing) but I thank God everyday that we have someone in the Whitehouse who can think, reason and deliberate (and most of all look and act presidential-like).

8. No amount of flowery..
... unicorn and daisy prose can hide the FACT that Obama IS a huge disappointment, a great big heaping helping of go along to get along, a man who is clearly going to take zero risks of any kind.

For all of you who are happy, you'd be happy with anything.

9. I think you got that all wrong
for those of you who are disappointed you were disappointed before and you're going to continue to be disappointed because you didn't like the man to begin with. For a lot of you I suspect the reason you are so sure to find fault with whatever he does is nothing other than the color of his skin. President Obama is doing a good job in spite of the hate filled spittle he has to work through

I"m happy because I like the thought of having a smart man, or woman if that were the case, at the helm

10. That..
... is a lie, but there is no way I can prove that to you.

I was ELATED in Nov of 2008, I'm beyond disappointed now, I am disgusted.

Obama is milktoast beyond my wildest imagination. Honestly, we'd have been better off just electing McCain. Now, the Dems are going to take full credit for the economy which is totally beyond Obama's ken, we're going to be mired in the same pointless wars, we are going to get health care "reform" that frankly is only marginally better than nothing at all.

I truly envy those who think things are just all right. Obama will be a one term president upon whom all of the malignant creations of the Republicans will be SUCCESSFULLY blamed. You wait and see.

13. Yes! Some perspective!
Love this part:

"Where is the complete ideological overhaul of the entire federal government? Where is the Gandhi-like pacifism? Why are we sending 30K more troops to Afghanistan? What about my new job, my single-payer health care and my tiny car that runs on sunflowers and hemp popsicles? Indeed, rabid impatience has combined with impossible expectation to give many liberals a free ticket to the land of nonstop bitching. Alas."

I think this is the key:

"Make no mistake, it is not all wine and roses and classy poetry slams in the East Room. Personally, I'm far from the nice swoon for Obama that I experienced when he swept to miraculous, world-altering victory, a swoon born in large part from the nearly unbearable sense of relief that Bush was finally gone. My appreciation is now tempered with harsh reality, as well it should be.

"Then again, during the campaign, Obama admitted this exact fact himself, saying he was sure to make mistakes, that you would not agree with every decision, that there would be more bad news before we got back to the good. What a jerk. Oh wait."

Bottom line: this shit takes time. All of it. And if we stamp our feet and demand what WE want, EXACTLY the way WE WANT IT, we're no better than the far-right wackjobs that wanted Bush to turn this country into a religious dictatorship.

So let's just keep our wigs on, shall we? Dude hasn't even been in office a year yet. Sheesh.

16. Obama will have accomplished more in his first year than any president in the history of the world,
Obama has had a very first good year indeed, spectacular even, far better than most in major media acknowledge (but they will, they will). In fact, assuming health care passes, Obama will have accomplished more in his first year than any president in the history of the world, ever.

19. more liberal bashing
how quaint.
I'm pretty sick of the lies and exaggeration about the nature of criticism.
They are not based on "doing enough," or "quickly enough."
They are based on analysis of the merits of each decision of each particular issue.

Political party loyalists tend to spin things, opposition party will make it all bad.

Guess I am in the middle - I favor what is best for the people and will point out where a politician is not doing what is best in that regards.
