HOORAY! MoveOn.Org breaks with Rahm's "Message Discipline" Team
...and comes out AGAINST The Escalation!

MoveOn finally broke with the White House after a year of keeping quiet about The Escalation plans for Afghanistan, and participating in the White House "Message Discipline" Program.

Since 2004, I have stopped donation to ALL "Centrist" Democrats, and instead send any donations to "LIBERAL" Democrats with proven track records, or Primary challengers to "Centrist" incumbents.
I have also stopped all donations to the DCCC, DSCC, and the DNC after they banished Howard Dean and took credit for his work.

When MoveOn refused to address Obama's planned escalation in Afghanistan in the spirit of Party Unity, I also stopped donations to them. I later learned that they were participating in Rahm's "Message Discipline" Program and functioning as nothing more than a White House propaganda outlet.

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2009/04/10-1

Today, they have posted THIS on their website:

http://www.moveon.org/

Help end the Wars for Corporate Profits!
Donate to MoveOn.

I can start sending them donations again.
Boy, I bet Rahm is really pissed!

12. He would be good at that!
He has certainly been good at keeping anyone from the Progressive Caucus out of the White House. They have been reduced to writing letters.

21. What nonsense is this? What a strange notion.
In the first place, messages remain visible no matter how many unrecs a thread has. What sort of conspiracy theory have you cooked up here? DU is in someone's pocket? Bizarre thinking, I'd say.

You know, every time I complained about unrec, I got one of those WILD over the top ad hominems that were exactly like those Kucinich bashing threads. (check out my journal if you're interested in a history of this---I've been talking about it since July) http://journals.democraticunderground.com/rudy23/55

They always have the exact tone of Rahm Emanuel. Message discipline. Their idea of message discipline is always making sure to say "I want a pony" to anyone who criticizes Obama. Or to use the exact same terminology and references when bashing Kucinich and trying to brand us all with his battered image at their hands.

43. Nope. Just an observation about how obvious the trolls have become.
You know, nasty ad hominems, accusing people of becoming conspiracy theorists, disproportionate feelings about the "unrec" feature to a suspicious degree.

Sorry about the voices in your head, though, hilariously misspelled Confucius.

in the first few years of the iraq war...one billion dollars worth of phony videos..

this, is even more sinister imo...when * and co were doing their nasty work, i had this place and the progressive outrage at other blogs to lean on..

now, we've discovered a concerted effort to target progressive groups to have them lean more centrist...this is bs...bs....bs.....although i could feel it...i knew something was up....

Edited on Wed Dec-02-09 04:51 PM by chill_wind
And the Obama team's was superlative. It just looks like Rahmbo might not be able stay in control of the discipline on this one. I can't say that makes me sad.

And I'd like to see a little more transparency on this one:

Some open government groups, such as the Sunlight Foundation and the Campaign Legal Center, criticize the Center's failure to disclose its contributors, particularly since it is so influential in appointments to the Obama administration.<6>

But I'm nosy that way.

11. Oh Man, do I agree.
It would have been helpful for:

*EFCA

*Trickle Down Stimulus

*Renegotiation of NAFTA

*Equal Rights and Equal Protections for EVERYBODY

*TARP

*Increasing Military Spending

...and so many other issues.

It may not be too late for Health Care if we can speak in a collective voice against another Trillion Dollar Corporate Give Away.

Not having a co-ordinated and unified voice on the National level really helped the White House cram a bunch of "Centrist" (Republican-Lite) policy down our throats. I still haven't forgiven MoveOn for their betrayal, but am delighted that they at least have the balls to STAND for something again.

The White House must realize that we are not going quietly into another Corporate Profits Good Night.

OUT NOW!
Prosecute WAR PROFITEERS!

7. "Message discipline" is just another frigged up habit
of Washington image makers, Rham included. Does anyone speak from the heart any more? Does anyone tell the truth? Do we really need focus groups and trial balloons? Do we really need 18 regular Americans wired up to an emotion meter so we can decide which words have the most impact and which way the wind is blowing? I`m SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO fed up with this crap.

"Yes, let's parrot what Rahm tells us to" - is that what MoveOn thinks its members expect from this organization?!

More important to be in with the in crowd than to do its core mission? Just another sellout.

39. Rahm Goes Apeshit on Liberals in the Veal Pen
By: Jane Hamsher Friday August 7, 2009

http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/2009/08/07/rahm-goes-apeshit-on-liberals-in-the-veal-pen/

"On Tuesday, Common Purpose held its weekly meeting where lobbyist Erik Smith and a comm person from the White House tell liberal interest groups what they should be saying that week. Then if anyone gets out of line, they kick their asses. Along with Unity 09 and the 8:45 am call, they exist to form a solid left flank and keep the White House immune from liberal criticism. I like to call them collectively "the veal pen."

...Look, Rahm has told the Blue Dogs they can do what they want to on health care. Maxine Waters confirmed it. When the Blue Dogs held the bill hostage, they got everything they wanted — Rahm and Jan "bail" Schakowsky got progressives to drop their very meaningful demands, which Mike Ross acknowledged "would have led to single payer." They gave them up in exchange for a meaningless floor vote on single payer. Go team.

Rahm was always going to beat the shit out of progressives to vote for a bad bill. The goal of the whip count effort was to make it impossible to pass a bad bill by getting progressives to commit to vote against one in sufficient numbers, such that Rahm had to either beat the Blue Dogs up or fail. But first he was always going to beat up the progressives.

The organizations that are usually at the Common Purpose meeting include Rock the Vote, the unions, the LCCR, the Sierra Club, HCAN, Bob Creamer (Jan Schakowsky’s husband) of Americans United for Change, CAP, Media Matters, MoveOn, Campaign for America’s Future and numerous other groups that earn their seat at that particular table by not bucking the White House. (The notable exception is MoveOn, who bravely sent a letter to their members telling them to contact the White House and tell Obama to rein Rahm in on triggers. I’m going to guess THAT precipitated quite the phone call.) ...."
